Caribous Gone From WCSHL?
Posted by: | Comments
The Telegram has run a column by Robin Short indicating that the Clarenville Caribous may be gone from the West Coast Senior Hockey League because of their decision to play their Herder Memorial games at the Mile One Stadium.
In the column, Short indicates that the people who run the WCSHL are not happy with Clarenville. He goes on to indicate that the three other teams in the league are not totally torn up about Caribous being in the league because of the travel costs associated with driving to Clarenville.
The article quotes league president Gary Gale as saying “As a president, I’ve had to deal with typical things that come up … controversies and the like. But the biggest thing I’ve had to deal with lately was why didn’t the west coast get any Herder games. And that was coming from fans and sponsors and the volunteers who are involved with hockey around here. And there’s a case to be made (for the complainants), to be quite honest. It is a west coast team. If you want to play in our league, you should play your Herder games here.”
The Caribous have not issued a formal response to this but on the Newfoundland Hockey Talk Discussion forum, Todd Brett, a member of the Clarenville Caribous executive who goes by the name “Caribous insider” has stated:
Its just Robin Short stirring the pot. If you want more info then ask Robin to quote the comments hes got from the teams. Ask him whos hes been talking too from the Cats, Wings and Royals and what exactly they had to say. You notice hes hasn’t given any direct comments from anyone who has said they want the Caribous out!! The whole thing is a joke! Not gona happen!
Now you have your offical response from the Caribous.
While the other teams have not commented officially on these recent developments, there is no denying that fans and sponsors are expressing their concerns. Would the league actually stoop to kicking the Caribous out of the league?
It is quite possible, but given that the state of teams such as the Corner Brook Royals, ejecting the Bous may result in a total collapse of the league.
Watch for this story to develop more as the West Coast Senior Hockey League’s annual general meeting comes about. Newfoundland Hockey Talk is guessing that there will be changes brought in to the league’s by-laws that will require West Coast teams to play their games at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook.
Morgan Warren Rumoured to be Leaving the Royals
Posted by: | CommentsRumour on the street is that Corner Brook Royals star and team captain Morgan Warren is leaving the team.
In an email received today unnamed sources have indicated the following:
Royals are losing Morgan Warren, he’s apparently moving elsewhere and cannot commit to the team.
While this is all a rumour, it would not surprise Newfoundland Hockey Talk if in fact, Morgan Warren does leave. The Royals have struggled for the last two seasons and have done little clean up their mess behind the scenes. It would be an unfortunate loss for the Corner Brook Royals.
Boston vs Montreal – Old Rivarly in Round One
Posted by: | CommentsThe Boston Bruins take first blood in their round one matchup against the Montreal Canadiens. One of the oldest and most anticipated rivalries in the NHL, this series will be one of the most watched of the round one matchups as Michael Ryder returns to face off against his old team.
Game one goes to the Bruins by a score of 4-2, in a game that was entertaining and for the most part looked like it was headed into overtime until Zdeno Chara scored at 8:35 of the third period to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. The Bruins scored an empty net goal to seal the victory.

Corner Brook Royals Future?
Posted by: | CommentsWhat will be the future of the Corner Brook Royals?
No one can deny their two dismal seasons and ending the 2008/09 campaign in the basement of the WCSHL put an exclamation mark on perhaps their worst performance in recent history. Watching this team play in the past season was painful for many of the fans and it didn’t get any easier the longer the season went.
The best thing that happened to the Corner Brook Royals this season was their quick exit from the playoffs. It put them out of their misery. Read More→

If there is anyone that is experiencing any problems accessing the site, it may be a few hours (hopefully) before the site is recognized again by the big-bad internet. It has been a major redesign from the top to bottom of the site, and I’m sure we’ve missed something along the way even though we tried to make sure we had everything completed before going live!
Possible Problems With New Site
Posted by: | CommentsFor those people who have messaged regarding the launch of the new site and new forum, we are in the final stages of testing permissions and user functionality. We are very close to once again opening the doors to the discussion forum.
With everything that has gone on these last 5 or 6 days in redesigning the site, we’re excited that we are about to launch again, with a clean slate and anxious to start things going as well. As you can see we’ve had a major overhaul of both the main site and the discussion forum, the creation of a new logo and the addition of new software to run this entire setup.
We here at Newfoundland Hockey Talk certainly hope that you enjoy yourselves when we open the doors. We are just correcting a few things and solving a few problems that we have discovered. Chances are these will not be the last things that we find out given how we have started basically from scratch.

Site Redesign – We’re Almost There
Posted by: | Comments
For those who have been visiting the site and watching it progress through the site redesign, we’re almost there!
It’s been a late few nights and getting everything in place with our new software, new logo and our revised list of forums has been a long and tedious process. We know that you are anxious to start discussing hockey again! Rest assured we are almost there and will soon have you ready to start “hockey talking” again.
Remember, you will have to register your account again as we’ve completely pruned all the content to keep the board lean and running fast. We trimmed over 5 years worth of topics from the databases – over 180,000 posts are now archived. Some of this content will be revived as here at Newfoundland Hockey Talk we are hoping to have a “Hall of Fame”, where some of the memories many eventually come back to life!
Check back shortly as we put the finishing touches on the site.
