I just saw a story on NTV News about Juan being suspended for a year. Apparently, he was suspended from anything to do with hockey in Newfoundland, and not just from the Royals.
Wow, I can’t believe that they would cause him to lose his job because of something he may or may not have said while coaching the Royals. What does senior hockey have to do with his job with minor hockey?
Parents of minor hockey kids in Corner Brook need to sound off to Hockey Newfoundland; tell them we want Juan to stick around. He’s been great for our kids!

Responding to the last comment by Serge; the ‘Senior Hockey League issue’ as you call it does affect minor hockey. If he has such views then express them in an appropriate, considerate and responsible manner. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I do not believe in blatantly spewing out all of his thoughts in such a way. I do not know if you were at any games in Clarenville or not, if you were you know what I’m talking about but if you weren’t, Juan Strickland didn’t keep to himself, we’ll say. Know what I mean? If he was suspended from HNL senior hockey, he should be suspended from all doings with the HNL. That’s that. Thank-you.

Why the hell is Juan being suspended for a year? is it because he stood up for one of his players and his team? obviously some ref’s and players in the league are racist. Racism is everywhere. Im am inspired by the fact that juan had the balls to stand up to people and let his point/concern be heard. he didnt pin point anyone, just questioned why maxwell was getting treated this way, alot of people think maxwell is a goon or a pest on the ice, this is not true, I know this guy personally and i can tell you that he is an enforcer, he’s not an ahole, he doesnt act like sean avery, he just goes outthere and plays hard? … Juan didnt just come up with this stuff, there are reasons he’s said those comments. anyways im sure juan is gonna fight this in court, and im pretty sure he’s gonna win and get his job back as techinical director with the cbmha. a big thumbs down to the hnl for handleing this situation the wrong way. everything that juan said was freedom of speech. Im calling on the president of the HNL to look into this racisim issue more carefully and give juan back his job that he loves sooo much.

I’m a parent that has a child in the CBMHA and this morning (Feb 20, 2010) at my daughters practice I asked why Juan wasn’t on the ice and was told by another parent that he was banned from the ice for a year…Juan has coached my daughter for the past 3 years and he’s done a great job. We haven’t been given any official reason and left woundering why this is…as far as I’m concerned Juan made his opinion known, which he’s entitled to have, and this Senior Hockey league issue should have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with minor hockey. I’ve written the President of the CBMHA and the Executive Director of HNL to voice my concern and I await there response. I and other parents are very upset over this issue.
