IceCaps Defeat Pirates

The St. John’s IceCaps held off the Portland Pirates to skate away with a 4-2 win in recent AHL action.

Portland jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when the Pirates Lessio scored his 10th goal of the season. St. John’s replied with just 6 seconds in the period, knotting the score at 1-1 on a goal by Chiarot heading in the dressing room at the end of the first period.

The second period saw the IceCaps take the lead 2-1 when St. John’s Klingberg scored his 9th of the season. They added a cushion goal going ahead 3-1 in the third period when the IceCaps Gordon scored his 12th of the season.

The Pirates pulled to within a single goal when Rieder scored his 11th. St. John’s secured the win with the Pirates pressing late in the third period with the extra man on the ice. Klingberg scored his second of the game, an empty netter with just 26 seconds remaining.
