The stars work hard and get their goals as a result of that. They aren't as talented as the top three teams but they put up a good fight Saturday against the Caps. They wont go lying down, might even steal a game, but thats about it. Last weekend was a prime time to steal one, as Sullivan, Escott and Walsh were out of the lineup.

I think you are mixed up here. I would argue the Stars were only in the game because of early penalties by the Caps. The Stars had 4 PP's including a 5 on 3 in the first. They also had a 4 minute PP to end the game as a result of the hit from behind by Carter. Thier inability to take further advantage of those PP's was a big difference (1 for 7 I believe). The Caps went 3-4 on the PP, including two on the spearing penalty to McGrath (gutless in my opinion) The Caps won because they are a better team, but they dug themselves a hole early because of the penalites, its definately not the reason they were in the game.
As was said, I wouldnt find the shot totals for two reasons : 1.) The Caps defiantely had better quality chances and 2.) I don't think those shot totals are remotely close to accurate most games.
Not to take anything away from the Stars, I thought they played a great game work ethic wise, but the PP definately has to get better. Hopefully tonights game is a close one as well
