PRESS RELEASE just post by CWSHL

The Central West Senior Hockey League confirmed on Tuesday evening,October 3,2017, that the three team League will open its 2017/2018 Season at the Steele Community Centre in Gander with the host Flyers playing last year's League champion Clarenville Caribous in a weekend set Saturday and Sunday, November 4th and 5th.

The League has been working for months to find a way to add a team to the League, as all teams had indicated during their Annual General Meeting at the end of last season that the teams would not continue if only three teams operated. An unexpected solution has now been confirmed which results in the three team League “adding” games to its operation by adding twelve (12) extra home games to the League schedule with interlocking games hosted in the three CWSHL arenas against all four of the teams that now make up the newly formed East Coast Senior Hockey League. The Southern Shore Breakers, St.John's Caps, Northeast Eagles and Conception Bay Blues will make visits to the three CWSHL “Home: rinks during dates in mid November and early December during the first half of the 2017-2018 Season. In the second half, combinations of the east coast teams will make two more visits to the CWSHL rinks during the middle and latter part of January. As a result of the mutual agreement between the two Leagues the CWSHL will be able to complete a 20 game schedule. The three CWSHL teams will play each other eight (8) times – four at “Home” and four “Away”- sixteen in total. The interlocking games with the ECSHL will add a total of twelve (12) games to the CWSHL Schedule – with each CWSHL team playing in the CWSHL Home rinks once against each of the four East coast teams.

All interlocking games will be counted for “Standings” and “Points” in the CWSHL. The final Schedule of particular dates for all games in the CWSHL this season will be posted within the next few days, all details now being finalized between the seven teams from both leagues involved in the arrangement and their respective rinks. All teams in both the CWSHL and ECSHL are excited about the upcoming season and very competitive hockey in all communities covered by the various teams. The new variety of competition that will come with the interlocking games will also add some new excitement to hockey in the Central West League.

A final piece of business announced by the CWSHL is the date for the player Draft which is confirmed to be open immediately and to close with a cut off of midnight on Monday,October 16th. The Draft will be held by all teams on the evening of Wednesday,October 18th. Any players interested are invited to file on-line on the CWSHL website. The Application process and Forms will be posted by Thursday,October 5th,2017
