As always. The fans were on the same side as camera. You couldn't see them.

The Game started not to bad, The Cats opened the scoring first with 13 secs left in the first to go up 1-0 after 1 Period, The Caribous took over scoring 4 goals in the 2nd, Crann with 2 nice goals, After 2 periods the Bous were up 4-1, The 3rd there was just the one goal by Mahoney to make it 5-1 Bous, The game ended by that score of 5-1 for the Bous, There was about 3 goals the AJ would have liked back but overall a pretty entertaining game

Hoffe is not doing the Cats any favours this year IMO. He looks out of place on the ice now and is a liability out there.
can,t skate with younger players anymore out there slashing everybody he played good hockey one time but not anymore liability to the team

Like beating a dead horse. This must have been explained 200 times on here yet every webcast it gets brought up again.

So were Hounsell or Kaycur or however you spell his name in this weekend? One would think if they were hoffe wouldn't of been in.. Cats need a bit more depth on D if they are playing hoffe every weekend.. This is a problem that they are not used to having over the past years but I think it is becoming a reality now.

If Brent and Hoffe hadn't returned the Cats would really be in trouble. If this is only temporary I don't know where they are going to get any more defense.

Cats last weekend for both games had Hoffe, Brent, Lindstrom, Hounsell, Kachur, Short, and Cantwell dressed.

The point missed by reciting the seven D listed on the Cats roster last weekend, is that , firstly, Hoffe unexpectedly has been playing the last two weeks directly because both Hounsell (and apparently,Kachur) are part-time and regularly unavailable.
Brent was "retired" and was out of total urgency 'persuaded' -like Hoffe- to play again, after the first weekend of League play.
Cantwell is "new" and learning... In fact he was used as a forward last weekend.
So, if the Cats , like any sensible team, want to be competitive, a basic game line-up for a game would list as va matter of course , at least six D.!
However, the Cats at the outset of the season had only two returning defencemen from last season - Short and Lindstrom.
(1)Brent stated he was finished/retired, ( two new small children) - did not play at season start;
(2) Simms, (a high-skilled D),unexpectedly defected to the west coast league;
(3) Hounsell has been ,(for awhile now) ,a part-time option for the Cats, and has stated that he is still only available on occasion this season;
(4)and, of course, MVP defenceman, Luke Gallant was eliminated when HNL ruled that the CWSHL could no longer have Imports.
With that unhappy situation, the Cats were lucky(?) that they drafted two defensemen in the Fall Draft: (1)"Newcomer" to NL, Klay Kachur , who had just moved to NL, (2)and, veteran CB Royals defenceman Adam Guy. Unfortunately for the Cats , Guy has now, like former Cat Stephen Simms, also defected to the west coast hockey.
As a result, the Cats tried to get help by signing former young defenceman Scott Cantwell , as a territorial pick, to make up what amounts to three 'regular' D... hardly a good situation.
So, as regular roster options, the Cats now have Short, Lindstrom and young Cantwell. Newcomer Kachur apparently will not be available regularly - he missed two games to date and apparently will miss two games this weekend .

To make the point out of all this - The Cats have serious personnel issues with D ...and forwards, too. The Cats just have a lot of their roster decimated from last season, and with only the Fall Draft as the only source to replace lost players they have had no viable means of recovering from those "losses"!
Brent, the "retiree" talked into coming back out of desperation for the team is now essential to at least having four D. And, he may not really be regular as he came back with persuasion from 'retirement.
Thus,... if Hounsell is uncertain from week to week, and Kachur is similarly not secure each weekend, and Hoffe is ,(honestly), a "fall-back" option; and Brent may not be available regularly; and Simms is 'gone', and Guy -(though he actually filed draft application, and never turned up)- never came 'at all' - he just stayed home in CB, then the Cats really are going to be hard-pressed during these early days.
The "off-hand" listing by Purple and Gold of "all those Cats defencemen's names" , who may have
been part of last weekend's games , does not capture the true "picture" of the Cataracts rosters problem going forward.

Good to see bussey getting a taste of his own medicine. Only so long that you can run around cheapshoting players before you get a taste of it yourself. Hate to see someone get hurt but by god bussey you kinda deserved that one. Hope you enjoy sitting around waiting for your broken ribs to heal. To bad some of the players you took shots at will never play again.
