Both GFW and Gander want Senior "A" hockey to be kept alive next season - even though Clarenville has publicly stated they do not want to play next season anywhere except east of Clarenville! They no longer want to travel "west" to either GFW or Gander.
Neither GFW nor Gander want to move down to "B" senior hockey, as some forced survival strategy - as the west coast has had to do with only local players available to play on their rosters. So, central hockey fans need help to keep senior "A" hockey alive. ( Those dedicated and skilled hockey players from all those other communities in NL who mostly live on the east coast have been at the centre of our great Senior hockey entertainment - especially now that HNL finally "broke" us and stopped any other skilled players " from away"(ie.'imports') from ever playing out here anymore - "imports" like Joe Byrne, Wes Trainer, and many, many others, who came to the "out back" of NL since the 1940's: when GFW got a 'real'' rink, and Gander too, who got their rink after GFW).
Time for HNL to show some fairer leadership for us out here, and make sure any attempts to create yet another "new" east coast League does not get approval . Such a move will be ONLY at the expense of killing vibrant already existing senior hockey in GFW and Gander - where real, paying, committed fans want hockey.
Someone has to step up and make sure Herder-eligible Senior "A" hockey is kept alive out here. The management and volunteers of the Cats and Flyers want their teams to have a place to play, and we in central deserve better than to be left high an dry - with the Bous making clear they want out - and, at the same time all the "talk" about another League promoted by the "cash-flush" CeeBees with teams like the Bous, and 'unnamed' other new venues looking to start up.
HNL should not allow the demise of hockey for GFW and Gander where there are thousands of fans, ... and coaches, players, volunteers and the committed community and corporate sponsors who are already in place . To have all of what are two strong , zealous hockey operations die such an uninvited, FORCED "death" is a travesty beyond all sense of rightness and decency!

Silly question..has there been any talk of bringing back the Evening Telegram Trophy for a lower level senior championship in the province?

For some information on its history

So you're suggesting that to be fair to fans in Gander and Grand Falls HNL should deny hockey to fans in Mount Pearl and CBN? Yes bye, that's the perfect definition of fairness alright?

It's amazing how someone can complain about being unfairly treated and then have no problem recommending throwing other teams under the bus just to push their own agenda.

It IS amazing. Mount Pearl and the CeeBees get kicked out of their league. The Caribous bolt . Corner Brook and DeerLake want no more to do with them and now they want HNL to artificially keep them alive. Batman and Robin couldn't keep the CWSHL going.. One team outspent the others by a country mile. Broken down " used to be" prospects flying in from God knows where
( its okay its air miles).. Paying salaries and not letting the tax people know the story. Now ... blame HNL. t was HNL that kept your league alive this year by sending out the Avalon teams to play a series of games they couldn't win. That was a mandated participation by the way.
Now there are TWO teams left in the CWSHL and one of those had trouble last year.
Here is a good question. Are the Cataracts and Flyers fundraising? That is a great question.

I shouldn’t be surprised that a bunch of people from the east don’t see it the same way as someone from Central.

I do see your guys points tho, why would they shut down another league to keep one going. But isn’t that what this new east league is doing? They start up a new league and it’s shutting another one down in central. There’s going to be two leagues on the east and none in central. East mentality tho we want everything and you guys get nothing. Typical.

I’m willing to be that if a new league in here started up and took away from the east they’d step in and say something.

The start of a new league in the east has nothing to do with the demise of the Central league. That writing was on the wall long before any talk of a new league took place. I know some people love to play the blame game but I think it's obvious to most that the demise of the central league is purely due to financial reasons and even if a new league in the east never gets off the ground, that reality doesn't change. The reason for the start of a new league in the east Is simply to provide the CeeBees and Blades with a place to play. If the AESHL hadn't given the CeeBees the boot and agreed to accept the Blades we wouldn't be having this conversation. Unfortunately though, you would probably still be facing the possibility that the central league, as you now know it, will probably not be around next year.

I am not at all sure the new league is going to get going.... why would there be a new league. There is already a league in the east. Is it a league JUST so the CeebEES can get a game. They have a willing partner in the Blades . The fourth team ....they talk about Paradise?? Why wouldn't Paradise just ask to join the existing league.
The dark spectre is that the new league would be really a CeeBees league. Just somewhere for the CeeBees to play.
The other thing is that whatever happens has to be HNL approved.... and some of the teams involved might be overdrawn in the bank of good will... I was told more would be known about the new league in April but the April pages have dropped off the calendar ...just a week left.

Its interesting that you have the imminent demise of Senior A hockey outside the overpass & inside the overpass they struggle to get their fecal matter together. Why the need for a new league out East?? The Ceebee's have been in hockey jail & have served their time. Why would they not be permitted to enter the current East Coast league??
