Anyone have any details on what the "new concept for competition" proposed by HNL is all about? Will the fans of CBN have senior hockey to look forward to this coming season?

4 leages for 13 teams lol. yes makes perfect sense. Unreal. Funny how HNL can flex their muscle in certain sutuations such as banning imports etc, yet when tough decisions come about they pass the buck. The reality is that nobody really cares about SR hockey except those with a vested interest in the small towns involved.

Last year there were 11 teams and three Leagues. The primary task this year is to find a way for the CeeBees to get back into Senior "A" hockey, (which they have stated they want to somehow),which would make for 12 teams. ( Is Mount Pearl really , genuinely interested in getting back into Senior hockey? Mount Pearl is referenced then as the "13th" team in the recent discussion. But, IMO , when they were in Senior hockey no amount of fans showed any interest enough to come out to games!).
The big challenge - that Hockey NL seems to be willing for the first time, to help out with - is how to accommodate 'new' entrants in CeeBees (and Mount Pearl?) while not ignoring central NL Senior"A" teams in GFW and Gander, who have definitively stated they would like to have hockey next season.
Unless there is a creative League structure set up that makes it a no cost travel/accommodation scenario the east teams do not appear interested in participating.
HNL's proactive stance in supporting a potential new "big time" corporate-sponsored League structure with corporate 'funding'/promotion marketing would enable central and east to play each other. This is a significant departure in how senior hockey could be kept operating in both the east AND in central. (The west braintrusts stated they want to continue to stay 'local' and keep their Senior "B" experiment as is for now).
The HNL endorsed new approach is definitely welcomed here in central, where two already operating Sr."A" teams in GFW and Gander will have no hockey without creative and co-operative efforts such as were put forward this past weekend at the HNL Annual meetings in Gander.

Unfortunately no clear way forward has emerged from the HNL meetings on the future of senior hockey. There is a proposal on the table that would have a kind of province wide set-up involving serious sponsorship but it would require everyone being on the same page and as everyone knows ...that's difficult in senior hockey. One proposal would see the various leagues move forward in the east and the west and central and then meet at the end of the year in round robin tournament that would decide a Herder winner... One of the people advancing the " overall proposal" for the Herder is Seamus O'Keefe who people will know from the very successful St. John's Caps organization
A couple of really difficult questions ... could the CeeBees play in the Central West league along with Clarenville ? That would save the central league but it is a very difficult sell.. CeeBees don't have much interest. . Clarenville has indicated it wants to come east not back to central. . Could Mount Pearl go back to what was the old Avalon East.? Could the west league be talked into any kind of co-operative venture with the central league?
There are many good questions with no answers on the table right now ... . There will be a conference call later in June but that won't settle anything. Hockey in Newfoundland usually gets settled in September.
Unfortunately there are some problems here that may have NO solution and it won't be HNLs fault or anybody else's . It will be a matter of geography AND ...changing times.

Force the east league to take in the cee bees, mount pearl and clarenville and force the west league to take in grand falls and gander. Hockey for everybody!
