What is the shape of a hockey puck?: triangle

I read the Herder HNL format to mean that two Division Champions would be in... easy.
But, who the other two Wild Cards are will depend entirely on which team of the remaining five teams has the best win percentage among those remaining 5 teams.
There are effectively two "Divisions: within the 'new' NLSHL. Thus, for example, where GFW and Gander play each other more often within the "Central" Division than they do the other 5 teams in the "East", it could turn out that the second place team of the two teams in Central , (if that team loses to the first place team in the Central playoff), then, that second place team will have had to win enough games overall as between all 7 teams to obtain a 'highest' winning percentage in order to qualify as one of the wild cards. That 'loser' of the Central Championship will then have to won enough games overall to end up having the second and third best winning percentage overall as among all 5 teams left 'standing' , after the 2 Division champions are determined.
Thus, in the case of GFW and Gander when they finish their Division Championship , if you were implying in your comments, that the team who loses the Central Championship is somehow automatically in the Herder, I do not think that is correct at all since a requirement to get the 2 wild cards is that those two teams must have the "best winning percentage overall" .
To illustrate, if GFW or Gander were to lose all their intra-Division games to the other, the loser would definitely be hard-pressed to end up with an adequate winning percentage as among all 7 teams, to qualify...

winning % will be known prior to the 7 game series . so that playoff could mean nothing .
very odd setup .

I think that was what I was trying to get at. At the end of regular season, before the best of 7 series starts, we should all know the final standings on each division as regular season will be over, so we will know then if Gander/Gfw would be able to make it into the Herder (by winning %), so that would completely defeat the purpose of playing a best of seven.. seems to make zero sense.

But,... even if winning % is known before , for example, the 4 of 7 Finals in the Central Div. - (the two teams in that Div. being the discussion item) - who has the better % will still be pivotal!
If the team that loses that Final has the 'best' winning %, then , as I read the process, that loser would still get to the Herder as a Wild Card, because of % standing.
Whereas, if the loser also has the poorer winning % , that loser will be eliminated. So, the incentive to win the Final is still in play for the central teams - maybe more so by the higher winning percentage team, since, winning the central Final would also eliminate the losing team altogether: The Div. winner would not have to face the Division 'rival' any further.

Seen this on Facebook:

CATARACTS 2018-2019 SCHEDULE

The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts are scheduled to play a 20 game schedule this coming season including 10 Home Games PLUS a Best-of-Seven playoff series against the Gander Flyers to determine the CWSHL representative, (along with the ECSHL Champion), in the Herder Championship Tournament. Regular season games will all be significant this year as the two teams with the best winning percentage, during the regular season. that do not win their league will also be invited to the Herder. The location of the Herder Championship tournament has yet to be determined.

I don’t understand, the cats will play gander in a best of seven series to see who goes on, but then further below it says the two teams with the best win % that do no win their leagues will be invitee to play in the herder?? So cats beat the flyers in a best of seven but then cats and flyers both go to the herder?? Can someone clear this up because this is either the stupidest thing I’ve evee heard or some reason confusing info!!
Welcome to hockey in Newfoundland. The League where everything's made up and the points don't matter.

'KABBOTT50', what a stupid comment to say that "points don't matter" in NL hockey. Of course they do.
This Season, there will be 4 participants in the Herder Provincial Championship - the Champion of each " Division" out east and from central. Points and position will be pretty standard stuff as to who gets in each championship playoffs - home ice , length of series etc.
Then the final two participants will be Wild Cards: Those 2 teams of the 5 left after Div. Champs are determined, who hold the 2 best winning percentages among them. The formats for Div playoffs, Wildcard calculations, and then the final 4 team tournament round robin is pretty common ...and will be exciting .
