Well ladies and gentlemen,

The first weekend of the Herder is over and the semi professional team, the Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts are well on their way to sweeping the Southern Shore Breakers. Third year in a row we’ll see a team from a semi professional league sweep a team from the an amateur league. How boring and predictable.

Where else in the world would you see a semi professional team compete against an amateur team and be proud of it? Only in Newfoundland, folks. Time for HNL to really put the screws to this semi professional set up in the offseason and cut them and the Flyers loose.

Lol Senior hockey has had paid players for the last 70 years. Maybe not cash in hand exchanged but hockey players were given jobs in the mill, in the mines, everywhere. Even teams out east bought players to come out there to play. EX. The Faulkners.

When I first started following senior hockey the Ceebees had something like 7 consecutive herder appearances. No one was complaining then because a team out east had a legitimate shot at winning it. But the Ceebees were paying players, they were paying other teams to pass on players in the draft and they were using money to get the best team possible. The Ceebees would almost win the Herder and then the following season you'd see them get the top players available in the draft get passed on by Bell Island and they would end up on the Ceebees. Because they had money.

Now because its been a few years since the East had a legit shot people are crying for HNL to blow it up. Heres an idea, call yourself a senior B league and don't play for the Herder. Let the Cats, Gander, Cville, Mount Pearl and the Ceebees play for the Herder.

First the imports were the ruination of the league, the east needed pickups because the mean west teams had imports.....we got rid of imports and ticket prices went down an amazing $2.00. HNL tried to give stricter rules about paying players and no imports to keep this league going and the Cats agreed. Going with only 3 forward lines and eliminating imports. Now you guys are still complaining.

Senior hockey is the only level of hockey available to GFW residents really, through years of proper building , the correct import choices, amazing drafting and endless time from volunteers constantly raising funds, the Cats have managed to build a competitive team every year with loyal fan support. That's financially reasonable for us.

Out east I can go to a Growlers game, so senior isn't as strong and some teams cant raise funds like we can so you want to tear down our team so you guys can be more competitive ??

Players have always been paid in senior hockey, don't kid yourselves, players out east are still being paid. You're just sour because teams out west can put a team together using NFLD players only, pay them and they can run the team in the black. Meanwhile the Avalon all-stars still aren't good enough to win the herder. So shut it all down.

Here’s an idea form a semi-pro league and play for a different trophy if you want to pay players in order to win a trophy.

I don’t get this obsession by certain teams to buy a Herder. Money ruined senior hockey in the 1980’s and a reset happened. Money has ruined senior hockey again and only for the East teams reluctantly agreeing to take on the added cost and risk to play interlocking games this season the CWSHL would have ceased to exist because teams couldn’t afford to keep up with the GFW’s of the world. Now you have a two team league in central, everyone talks about adding a third team, it’s not going to happen.

From 2000 to 2005 4 different teams won the Herder. From 2006 until now 3 different teams have won the Herder and that trend will continue this year. It’s time for change.

The east didn't take on any extra costs by adding interlocking games. Do you just make this **** up? The Cats and Flyers paid for their way to and from central gave them meals and paid their players. What costs are left?

Accommodations, incidentals, any new sticks needed, any new equipment that may need to be replaced. The risk of getting on a bus in the dead of winter and driving 4 hours across the province, the risk of getting stuck out in Central due to weather for an extra day or 2 and loss wages from their jobs in that event. Yeah but according to you the logistics of hoping on a bus and going away for the weekend is easy.

Evan’s opinion is part of the problem. It’s time for change! Thirteen straight years with the same three teams winning the Herder. It’s time for a different winner!

If another team wants to win maybe do a better job recruiting players.

Also accommodations were also taken care of. Don't bother bringing up gear and sticks, for Jesus sake they need that for games out there to. Give your head a shake man.

Also you ask why would teams from the east travel here for nothing and take on all the cost...... Isn't that contradicting? Isn't that exactly the same reason why teams In central pay players. You suggest it's not fair for a team to travel for nothing but thinks its ok for a player to travel for nothing.
