FYI - if there were a 'new' five team east/central configuration with the suggested imbalance of home games for the two central teams, there could still be a schedule that enables pretty close to an "every second weekend home' situation for the central teams...
The essential purpose/point of the suggested imbalance in central home games is to facilitate the east teams not having to travel to central much - only one weekend for each east team at GFW and Gander. The east teams would have very little travel costs as a result.
The two central teams have most of their players from the east coast anyway so travel is not as big a cost issue for us out this way ... And, those players who do live out this way would be billeted with their teammates who live in Goulds, Mt.Pearl, St.John's 'etc'.
The suggested set-up saves hockey all around those communities who all appear to definitely want Senior 'A' hockey. And this scenario avoids CeeBees/Bous/Blades having to set up a 'new' - (and generally 'dreaded') - three team League. I think having the five teams that seem to be now 'looking' for hockey - apart from the four teams already in the present ECSHL League - is a reasonable , workable (if not 'perfect') solution.

I don't dislike your proposal at all, I'm saying if the Bous are indeed the fly in the ointment, maybe the other 4 teams could do something to keep hockey alive. 5 would obviously be better than 4, but 4 could still work. Top 3 teams make the playoffs with a bye to the finals for the 1st place team. As you said a three team league is practically useless. If the 2 east leagues are not combined then hockey in the east will be brutal.aseyeseesit wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 12:04 pmFYI - if there were a 'new' five team east/central configuration with the suggested imbalance of home games for the two central teams, there could still be a schedule that enables pretty close to an "every second weekend home' situation for the central teams...

I'm still hearing that they will be combined leaving Gander and GFW out of the mix altogether unfortunately

There is unfortunately here now at the beginning of July and that is nobody seems to want to drive to Gander or Grand Falls to play hockey for nothing. Clarenville says categorically it wants to play in the east. Amateur hockey in the west seems to be straightened out .... the east will straighten itself out.. Grand Falls and Gander need to get to work on a Central Newfoundland amateur league and stop waiting for Superman or Batman and Robin to show up and save them.

To your comment HockeyEyes, we already have amateur hockey in central... with hockey players of 'B' level amateurs on teams of the Central NL Hockey League - in Twillingate (Combines), in GFW Exploits (Blades), in Lewisporte (SeaHawks) and in Baie Verte (Northeast Eagles)...
What the already-substantial fan bases of the Cataracts and Flyers want is not what the small fan base may want who watch the 'B' hockey teams in the already existing Central Hockey League.
But, what the thousands of Cats and Flyers fans want is the high level hockey entertainment that 'A' hockey provides...
We have two teams of that 'A' level of hockey in the Flyers and Cats. And, even in the desperation that now exists since last season ended, the inquiries and contacts by the Cats and Flyers with a Central team operation like Twillingate for example, - and whether they may possibly upgrade as a competitive foundation for a third partner, - has yet to prove out... (They already have their own 4 team League ). And, even at that, we (GFW and Gdr.) would still need to find a place/community to allow us to have a fourth team to operate): Three team Leagues are a disaster! We have learned that from our recent 'forced' adjustments in the CWSHL over the last two years!
We believe the best chance for continuing hockey that fans will come out to watch nd support here in GFW and Gander is to somehow entice and work out a plan with a "new" set up with similar skilled teams 'east of us' - such as the historic(and imminently to-be-reborn) CeeBees, the resurrected Mt.Pearl Blades and the ever-resilient Bous... It would make for the best hockey on the island.

The CWSHL is an amateur hockey league. You can't just make up your own definitions just to suit your arrogant purposes. But in the meantime, Hockeylies made clear to everybody with that last post just how hateful he is towards GFW and Gander.... two towns that actually care about senior hockey in NL.

...." It would make for the best hockey on the island." but it is not to be . that is the reality. The days of high paid hockey are gone . Not killed by HNL but by lack of interest from enough fans.. Yes Grand Falls and I guess Gander are interested ... but Corner Brook , Deer Lake , and now Clarenville are not. All that is left is two teams . It is over. There is no joy in that ...it is just that it is time to move on ....It doesn't look like anyone in the east ... Mount Pearl or Clarenville or the CeeBees or the Caps or the Eagles or the Southern Shore or Bell Island/Conception Bay South are interested in driving to central Newfoundland at great expense to play hockey because two towns want it that way .. The eastern teams are are fine in the east in some configuration ....where it costs thirty thousand dollars to run a team and not three hundred thousand dollars
... ..... .
... ..... .
