Yes the person I spoke with today from the Mount Pearl team said they had some players from the former team but they also had graduating junior players from their system. You are right thought ...there aren't enough players to go around. Last year "the east" was significantly weaker than the year before. The Eagles had become old and had trouble replacing their players. It is a sign of the times I fear...... .

Clarenville was not sent to the Central West league they were still currently a team of the Cwshl. I said all along that if Cee Bees and Caribous wanted hockey this year they would have to play in a league with the Cats and Flyers. The exciting news that is yet to come will be the other two teams that will be looking to compete with for the Herder this year. The beer can East Coast league will not be from what I hear.Hockey Eyes wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 5:58 pmThere is no game for Mount Pearl in the new hockey configuration. Too bad ... they have money and they had players lined up. Everything was good until Central failed to find a team in central it changed everything and the CeeBees and the Caribous were sent to central. The east will stay the same and ...there will be the same interest from players in driving to central Newfoundland to play hockey for nothing. Still I hope it works out for the fans of Clarenville and Grand Falls and Gander.
It would be nice to have a Mount Pearl team but that is just me. People in Mount Pearl could care less. They will all be down to the Growlers games.

I heard today the way that the Herder could be possibly set up and I have to say, I like it. I also have to say that i'm glad to hear that HNL has been a big driving force behind the set up. Hopefully it all get finalized in the coming week or two.
From what I was told there were 10 meeting over the summer to try and get this to work out. That's a big commitment from all the individuals involved, especially during the summer months. I know to well what it takes to keep senior hockey alive and well... this might be the key.

I stand to be corrected but my understanding is that a major sponsor and a couple of minor sponsors were on board for a Herder Weekend that would be like the national junior championships. . Two teams from the east , two teams from the west and two teams from central in a round robin tournament and a championship game that would be held this year in St. John's . Next year it would be in Corner Brook and would then alternate back and forth.
That was a proposal and having the CeeBees and the Caribous playing in Central would satisfy the requirement that it be a truly " provincial " tournament.
Who knows what can happen this winter. If Twillingate had become part of a central league it would have made things easier instead of two teams CeeBees and Caribous ...at a distance. .
I will say it is still a long ways from dropping a puck. I hope it all works out.

Soon be crunch time as the AGM is coming up soon (is anybody surprised it won't be settled till then?} Likely a lot of negotiations coming up in the next couple of weeks. Fans in CBN, Clar,. GF and Gander are keeping their fingers crossed for good news.

Robin Short, who certainly knows his way around hockey ,said in a Telegram article today that only three teams , one from west central and east , would be going to the round robin Herder. I assume he is correct . He is better connected than I am ...

Hockey Eyes. you had commented that if Twillingate had 'joined' the CWSHL then travel would be easier...
But, when Twillingate was referred to as a possible 4th team entry for the CWSHL , people outside of central probably do not realize that Twillingate is already part of an ongoing, fairly successful 4 team Senior Intermediate League that currently exists, and has existed for awhile, out here in "central" (the 'CNHL'). The 4 teams in that League are the Twillingate Combines, Lewisporte Seahawks, Exploits Blades ,(who play out of the Joe Byrne Stadium in GFW, as do the Cataracts), and the Northeast Sabres in Baie Verte. Having Twillingate leave that CNHL, to play in the CWSHL would have probably put an end to the viability of that League , as they would have been reduced to only 3 teams.... So, that kind of 'solution' was not a good idea anyway with the very negative consequences it would have had on those other three hockey communities in that CNHL.
