These 2 teams do it right and it’s not their fault they don’t have a game to play.
It’s not their fault they don’t have a game to play? Lol seriously? Then who’s fault is it? Please enlighten me, not surprised the first thing you do here is play the victim card and the blame game. Oh the “poor” ol Flyers and Cataracts don’t have anywhere to play and it’s everyone’s fault but their own. Typical Newfoundland attitude right there.
Maybe they’ve priced themselves out of a game based on their current operating model.
If they’re the only two teams who are “doing it right” as you say then why don’t they have other teams beating the doors down and wanting to play in a league with them? Christ sakes they can’t even get any of the other 9 teams in the province to play a few interlocking games with them other than HNL reportedly forcing a team to play interlocking with them.
It’s funny that of the 11 teams we have at the moment it’s them that are doing it right and all the others are essentially “minor hockey” teams according to you. It’s not hard to see you have chips in play here whether you’re on the executive of the Cats or Flyers, have a family member who plays for one of those two teams or are a sponsor.
As for the Allan Cup, big whoop. It’s not even that big of a deal besides to a select few teams around the country and every year there are less and less teams competing for it. Even the storied Lacombe Generals ceased operations back in May. It’s the pursuit of the Allan Cup that put the Caribous where they are right now in my opinion, it’s just not viable to compete for year after year especially for teams from Newfoundland.
The Cataracts were a semi professional team playing against an amateur team for last year’s Herder; that is why the Breakers were allowed to dress 3 pick-ups. Pat Yetman was playing for the love of the game and not making a cent I’m sure
We’ve had the same 3 teams win the last 14 Herders. Change is needed, other centres should have a fair shot at winning a Herder and not having to go through a semi-professional team. If the Cats and Flyers want to be professional hockey teams then go join a professional hockey league or start a professional league of their own and stop buying Herders.
