It's time HNL take control of this so called senior league and bring all these teams together to bring senior hockey to the next level in this province, and make the teams travel to play or get out. Another beginning to the end of a good thing. Shame on you HNL.
They did just that and forced the ECSHL to take the Cee Bees into their league. As for the Cats and Flyers; they have no one to blame but themselves and their current operating model for the situation they are currently in, its not sustainable and that’s why Clarenville left that league.

The location of these two teams also hinders their prospect of finding a game. No team from either the WCSHL or the ECSHL wants to travel to Central every other weekend and put themselves in financial difficulty. It’s not HNL’s decision to make to force teams who can’t afford it to travel to Central to play against the Cats and Flyers unless they are going to foot the bills.

The ECSHL and WCSHL choose to operate their league and teams like minor hockey. Minor hockey is over folks. The only 2 teams that operate under a true Senior model are Gander and Grand Falls and it is very unfortunate for those 2 teams that no other organization have the grit and brains enough to be capable to do so.

All this negativity toward them is nothing but utter jealousy, plain and simple. These 2 teams do it right and it’s not their fault they don’t have a game to play. It’s just we only have 2 teams prepared to play Senior A hockey.

When was the last time a ECSHL or WCSHL team went to an Allan Cup? The true prize of Senior hockey. It’s the big leagues vs amateur hour. Hold your heads high Flyers and Cataracts. The real fans know the difference.

And this bull about the Cataracts “buying” a herder. Give me a break. Do not be stupid enough to believe the East or west league teams don’t pay their players. Sad thing is they only pay certain ones. Talk about a farce. I guarantee you the flyers had a higher payroll then the cats last year.Oh ya and the breakers get 4 pick ups for the herder. No no. The cats win their herders on heart, the same way the ceebees made it to game 5 of the herder in 2017. Heart and soul, something the city amateur league wouldn’t know anything about.

Last 5 herders

Cats
Bous
Ceebees
Cats
Cats

Allan cup
Cats 2017

No team here from inside the overpass

JEALOUSY FOLKS.

It’s not their fault they don’t have a game to play? Lol seriously? Then who’s fault is it? Please enlighten me, not surprised the first thing you do here is play the victim card and the blame game. Oh the “poor” ol Flyers and Cataracts don’t have anywhere to play and it’s everyone’s fault but their own. Typical Newfoundland attitude right there.

Maybe they’ve priced themselves out of a game based on their current operating model.

If they’re the only two teams who are “doing it right” as you say then why don’t they have other teams beating the doors down and wanting to play in a league with them? Christ sakes they can’t even get any of the other 9 teams in the province to play a few interlocking games with them other than HNL reportedly forcing a team to play interlocking with them.

It’s funny that of the 11 teams we have at the moment it’s them that are doing it right and all the others are essentially “minor hockey” teams according to you. It’s not hard to see you have chips in play here whether you’re on the executive of the Cats or Flyers, have a family member who plays for one of those two teams or are a sponsor.

As for the Allan Cup, big whoop. It’s not even that big of a deal besides to a select few teams around the country and every year there are less and less teams competing for it. Even the storied Lacombe Generals ceased operations back in May. It’s the pursuit of the Allan Cup that put the Caribous where they are right now in my opinion, it’s just not viable to compete for year after year especially for teams from Newfoundland.

The Cataracts were a semi professional team playing against an amateur team for last year’s Herder; that is why the Breakers were allowed to dress 3 pick-ups. Pat Yetman was playing for the love of the game and not making a cent I’m sure

We’ve had the same 3 teams win the last 14 Herders. Change is needed, other centres should have a fair shot at winning a Herder and not having to go through a semi-professional team. If the Cats and Flyers want to be professional hockey teams then go join a professional hockey league or start a professional league of their own and stop buying Herders.

Makes one sick to listen to the crap coming from inside the overpass. You people only have to go down the road to the venues while Cats having to hire bus to get to areas like Clarnville. Cats are no more semi pro than anyone else. One of the main reasons players want to play in GFW is the way management and fans treat them. My hope is the Cats can get a third team someway and get the Chance to play for Herder again . The way they been treated by HNL over the years is pathetic. They were never shown any breaks by league or HNL.

They way they’ve been treated by HNL? Here we go with the blame game. Always someone else’s fault. HNL, the crowd from inside the overpass, the other teams, the ECSHL, the WCSHL. Always someone else to blame.

If the Cataracts and Flyers want other teams to come play them against their will then they should have to pay the other team’s travel expenses.

Neither the Cats nor the Flyers "have priced themselves out of the market"...
The two teams here in central are the only teams with a market - fans that is!
The ECSHL teams have never had a market - ie. fans. The ecshl don't actually have any fan interest for their games.... 50 would be a big crowd outside of playoffs.
The CWSHL ,(and the CeeBees, as a team historically), has been the only League (and that CBN team) that actually gets 500 to 800 fans at all games.
The pick-up league out east really only exists for the dozen or so players who actually make the minimal effort to turn up for games!

Oh just a fan

If the Cats and Flyers want a game they should pay the other teams expenses??? Sounds familer, almost like they did the last season. Gave them a place to stay and food. Can't get much better than that. So what's the next excuse?

They don’t have a team to join them because they are all scared of them haha

Nobody said Pat Yetman was playing for the love of the game?? Matter of fact, none of the cats were but neither was Mark Yetman, Delaney, Pender, etc.

I guess Stan Coffin set the bar too high in terms of financial stability and how to
Maintain it. Year after year, Allan cup after Allan cup and yet they remain the most financially stable franchise on the island. Yes he’s for sure doing it all wrong.

No wonder you can’t get any fans, you’re like the only true fan and all you do is complain and be negative, but then as soon as the cats show up for herder it’s a packed house. I wonder what the draw was?🤔

You make it sound like the Avalon and specifically the St. John’s Metro area don’t support hockey and say that it was the Cats that packed the Herder, but the funny thing is that game 7 of the St. John’s Junior League final also had a very big crowd. The 2018 Herder which featured the Caribous saw big crowds as well.

Its easy for the bar to be set high for financial stability when you have the town giving you money you don’t have to pay back and your senior hockey team is the main recipient of fundraising dollars in your community with a lot less competition for those fundraising dollars than a team in the St. John’s metro area even when you take into account the difference in population.

And to say that the ECSHL and their teams don’t fundraise is wrong. The ECSHL as a league holds multiple fundraisers throughout the year. Just this summer they donated money to youth ball hockey teams travelling to Nationals. The Southern Shore Breakers along with the Southern Shore Minor Hockey Association have been doing a lot of fundraising over the last year in support of Ken Williams. But it’s all about priorities and it seems the teams out here are more charitable with the money they do end up fundraising. So this narrative about the East teams not fundraising just isn’t true despite what you believe and continue to harp on the East teams for.

It’s funny that you bring up the Allan Cup time after time when it is clearly dying out and isn’t sustainable to compete for not only here but also in other parts of the country as can be seen by the decreasing amount of teams competing for it every year. The truth is Senior A hockey and the Allan Cup is second fiddle to Junior A hockey in almost every single corner of this country except for here. The fact that there are so many on here that support pumping 100,000’s of thousands of dollars into winning Herders and Allan Cups every year while most of the hockey community in this country are supporting Junior A hockey goes to show the mentality about amateur hockey here in Newfoundland, especially outside the Avalon.
