St. John’s getting a QMJHL Franchise?
Is St. John’s Getting QMJHL? There are many rumours going around that...
The annual tournament held each year in honor of his friend Mark Baldwin was renamed to include Tommy after his passing in 2012. Both individuals were very near and dear to many in the community and surrounding communities. This year there is an overwhelming amount of support from participants and it looks like we may have six teams entered for a weekend of fun! Given it’s a natural ice surface, six teams is the max that can be registered given the toll that amount of activity takes on natural ice.
The tournament will start on Friday, January 31st with opening ceremonies to take place at 7PM. There will be two games to follow that night. Round robin games will take place on Saturday, February 1st with playoffs being held on the final day, Sunday, February 2nd.
Perry Sheppard and the Cox’s Cove recreation have been instrumental in organizing this event since Tommy passed away and again this year, they are hoping to host a successful tournament which will allow all in attendance to reflect and reminisce on these two individuals who was taken from us too early.
The recreation committee is looking for donations to help offset the cost of hosting such an event. Any donation of either cash, food, beverages (water, Gatorade, beer, etc) would be greatly appreciated.
Any cash (cheque) donations can be written out to the “Cox’s Cove Recreation Commission” indicating in the memo section either:
