Let face it. It is only because the Cataracts could be on their way to winning their first Herder in 29 years that the import issue has come up and it is obvious who is talking about it Cee Bee fans. First, it was all that nonsense about how the west is dominating the Herder when in fact the East has won 13 Herders to the West's seven in the last 20 years.
It is hilarious when looking at their roster to see a lot of the players don't live in the area. Even if you went back to the 1960s when the Ceebees won the Herder every second year, half the team was from somewhere else!!!
If you want to change the import rule for senior hockey, do it the way they do in Saskatchewan. They draw a radius circle around a center (Grand Falls-Windsor, Harbour Grace or wherever) and if you are not a resident within a certain range in all four directions, then you are an IMPORT! Doesn't matter about birthplace, who your old man was, your job..etc that is the rule. And yes, it would remove some fly-ins from the Cats roster and probably a few more from the Ceebees.
My guess is that nothing will happen at all and we will be having the same debate this time next year. Imports are indeed an addiction for some teams and one that will probably kill them in the end whether they win the Herder or not.
