I've read comments on here lately about now the hockey isn't as exciting for the ceebees since entering the new league.. I think the main reason for that is just that exact fact - the team is in a new league and its the first year and no rivalry have been established yet..

The first few years the bous were in the league, we had no rivalry yet either.. we were the new kid on the block.. but within the 3rd year.. we have a strong rivalry in the red wings, which then later in the past 2 years have turned to the Cats..

Having a good rivalry makes the game more intense and thus more exciting for the fans to watch... IMO anyway..

I agree 100%, the same goes for this blog, I like to see a little rivalry on this site, like where is Tomcod, tommy, rick, shawn & the rest of the people that use to make this blog exciting to read. I been chatting to alot of people about this blog & there are alot of people saying its not the same as previous year, its getting to boring here, You not allow to stir the pot anymore or raz someone anymore. Just goes back a couple of years ago & see all the posts that was made in one day, now you might get half the amount of posts. Maybe Barry can telling us the amount of hits per day now compared to a couple of years ago, I bet the hits are down alot. Rivalry in here carries over to the games wish in turn makes thing exciting.IMO

Site traffic has steadily grown over the life of the board. Traffic is well above where it has been with the controversy of the Herder venue driving things totally crazy here on the site.

Traffic was down for the first time in 7 years these last 3 weeks with the Herder being played. That was it.

As for the rivalries, it does carry over into here but when we let everything go, there's hundreds of
complaints sent ot me with respect to "cleaning things up". When we "clean things up" people complain there's not as much action here.

Now that all the threads are centred around hockey talk, not bashing one another, just posting irrelevant stuff, am I to believe this is a bad thing?

Maybe I should share the number of emails / messages I got from people thanking for getting things back to the hockey talk.

Summary of Traffic since switching hosting platforms and coming to our home with this particular hosting provider:

2009 - 4.1 million total pages viewed for the entire year
2010 - 10.4 million pages viewed for the entire year
2011 - 15.9 million pages viewed for the entire year
2012 - 5.7 million pages viewed for 3 months

Monthly Bandwidth in 2009 went from 5 GBs per month to 59.28 per month.

Monthly Bandwidth in 2010 went from 57 GB per month to 72 GB per month.

Monthly Bandwidth in 2011 went from 54 GB to 59 GB per month (new software was installed that made overall performance better. Smaller icons / images used to minimize traffic).

Monthly Bandwidth in 2012 is between 54 to 59 GB per month.

I am on the 4th server upgrade in 7 years of operation to handle the traffic & data base connections.

Things that have impacted traffic numbers - Cats audio broadcast, individual team pages on Facebook & a relatively good website for the league this year.

Overall, I'm pleased with the way things have progressed and with the growth we have seen.

Things that impact people posting - having a life outside of the blog. LOL! Some of the people you've mentioned, they now have jobs out of town, they have new babies, new jobs, new roles with some of the teams.

Number of hits have remained high, in the millions each day. But that number can be manipulated.

Cost of running the site has been relatively consistent for the last 3 years (I pay for the amount of bandwidth used).

These numbers are strictly for the forum portion, doesn't apply to other things on the site.

Overall, I'm pleased.

The "Rivalry" portion - we started a section people could use to continue the rivalries and keep it separate from the general hockey discussion, it didn't work.
