- What is the shape of a hockey puck?: triangle
Can someone give me the number of imports for each team? And a explanation for the discrepancy from team to team And don't give me the song and dance about players from town are more expensive than flying players in from the mainland, doing it for the betterment of the league and last but not least PARITY!!! Imports across the board would make it a even playing field!

Well if you dont want to hear that excuse there will be no pleasing you.
In a Nutshell.
There used to be 2 leagues. WCSHL & AESHL
Since St johns has a much larger population they would in general produce a larger # of top talent players. (Ex. if 1 in 1000 are great hockey players, grand falls produces roughly 18-20 where St Johns produces 150)
WCSHL would have to offer up alot more money to get players to leave their home of St Johns and play for them in Corner Brook.
WCSHL team Deerlake saw it was almost as cheap to fly in an "Import" rather than fly/bus a St Johns player.
It was approved and WCSHL were allowed imports. AESHL didnt want imports, felt they didnt need them.
When the leagues joined then there was a grey area of whom could have what. So they went back to the geographical thing. Its cheaper for a team to fly in imports rather then fly/bus players from St Johns.
Therefore to try and create a balanced team, given Geography and last few years placings ( Royals struggling, Deerlake folded, GFW and Clarenville doing well, Ceebees top team in the AESHL for 10 years ) they decided upon:
Royals 4. GFW 3. Gander 3. Clarenville 2 Ceebees 2.
You might not like it but it works. The NEW team are only a few games back of a plaoff spot and everyone else is right there in the mix. This is the closest matched hockey league we have ever had.

GO CATS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!
I know what the reasoning is behind it but I still don't agree with it and my team benefits from having one more that two other teams. The reasoning holds no water IMO. You only need to look at last years standings to see how foolish this is. For those who can't remember the bottom two teams were the ones closest to all these players with MP being the closest and finishing dead last. Clearly a bunch of bs.
Good point!!!! So using your example of 1 in 1000; Clarenville has a population of approx 6000 giving 6 quality players and say the Bonavista area gives another 6 players for a total of 12, you say that GFW has 18-20......6-8 extra players but are allowed an extra import........Gander being the new kid on the block have the same allocation of imports as an established team as GFW.......what is your justification for this?evanpenton wrote:Well if you dont want to hear that excuse there will be no pleasing you.

There's no justifying it. Funny you bring up the Cats when the Royals have one more than GFW and they have the entire west coast and northern penninsula to themselves to draw from.goboosgo wrote:So using your example of 1 in 1000; Clarenville has a population of approx 6000 giving 6 quality players and say the Bonavista area gives another 6 players for a total of 12, you say that GFW has 18-20......6-8 extra players but are allowed an extra import........Gander being the new kid on the block have the same allocation of imports as an established team as GFW.......what is your justification for this?evanpenton wrote:Well if you dont want to hear that excuse there will be no pleasing you.

Just uesd the numbers presented by Evan, the Cats and Flyers have the same number of imports and the Royals have an extra import. You have a dispersal draft after the Blades folded and the top player in that draft apparently refused to play for the Flyers, maybe becuse he didn't want to play with the expansion team and be humiliated but the expansion Flyers are doing better that the Blades did last year. lol
