What is the shape of a hockey puck?: triangle

Sun Aug 04, 2013 9:34 am

Hi all.
Is there anywhere we can see the new rules for the upcoming year? Just a fan wanting to keep up with the game. I hear they added an import and reduced the number of players dressed? Anything else?

Why would you reduce the number allowed to be dressed? Any info would be nice.

The extra import was a goalie one if a team choose to get one & I heard they cut the roster down to save cost to the teams, The league is looking out for the teams I guess & they want to last as long as they can

Personally I don't have a problem with knocking the dressed player number from 20 to 18 cause the two guys that sit per game aren't going to be impact players and the clubs will save an extra couple of hundred bucks per game which adds up over the course of a season.
This import thing about the card having to be used on a goalie if its true, is out to lunch in my opinion. It's certainly not a cost saving measure cause an imports costs are the same regardless of the type of gear he where's.

Def a cost cutting measure by the league, they see players being brought in and only getting 4 minutes a game, and as the game gets deeper most coaches will go with three lines. Teams can use the extra dough under the cap to load up three lines.

So we agree on that. What's your take on an extra import being a goalie import. To me that seems ridiculous so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say something is getting lost in translation.

We agree my buddy. But look at this quote out of the compass regarding the Cee bees a while back: "Things are also happening off the ice that could impact the team's future, including a decision by Hockey NL to increase the number of allowable imports. As such, the CeeBees will see its maximum go from two to three players, plus an import goaltender." To me somethings going on here, the paper even stated the upping of allowable imports + an import goalie. Something either changed or was a misconception.... to me with the blades returning, why not allow another import, Im pro-imports. It helps put butts in seats and extra money into the organization. Also when a "big named" player is added, people get excited and want to see the guy play, hey Geo look at the Cats, when we brought in Marty.. class act and fan fav. Or now Gallant, people wanna see the guy load up a one-timer, Tyler Whitehead when he was a Cat, take any of these players for example and it puts extra revenue into teams even with salary and flight taken out. People will be out in gander even more to see Peter Campbell with a Flyer crested jersey on!

I didn't see the quote in the compass but If your quote of the quote is correct then something strange is going on behind the scenes. Your assessment of big name players is dead on. I'm gonna plank down my money to see this Campbell guy play in gander every chance I get if he's the real deal

I'm the same way Geo, if any big named player comes to NL its always a bonus for the fans and the team. Ill be journeying out to Gander to see Campbell I mean its great news for the expansion team in the airport town to bring in some offensive flare with an impressive minor pro resume. When I read that article in the Compass about adding a extra import allows teams to search for another big named free agent and def rise the reputation of the NLSHL. Every player that has flown in to play in this league has loved playing here, on the weekend local barns filled with die hard fans. I remember last year when Bryan Gillis was brought in by the Royals he loved the atmosphere and the game itself.. the quality and Id say he will want to be back this season for the Royals! Look at all the players that have come here and stayed! Some in there 3rd and 4th and 5th season. But in general adding one Import and dropping the number of players allowed to dress from 20-18 would allow teams put that extra money into that import card. I know fans would rather see a Import player playing 25 minutes a game a game changing player at that then seeing a 4th line guy just wearing the paint off the bench! JMO hopefully the league clarifies this decision, add the extra import and lets get on with the upcoming season.. we all hope there's no "storm" brewing on the horizon... enough of that already, every year looks to be something different, all we want is good hockey! not a battle off the ice for rules/rights and etc... come on with puck drop 2013!
