The St. John's Maple Leafs and Western Kings split the first two games of the Provincial Major Midget Championship Series this past weekend at the Glacier in Mount Pearl.
The Kings opened the best-of-seven final with a 6-3 win over the Leafs Saturday night.
Brandon Sexton had a two-goal game for the Kings in the opener, while captain Brady Griffin-Hefford supported the offensive surge with a goal and two assists.
Ryan Gillam, Mateo Short and Lucas Reid rounded out the scoring parade for the Kings, who finished second to the Maple Leafs in the regular season.
Andrew Barron, Dylan Guy and Tyler Hennessey replied for the Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs evened the series at one game apiece with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at the Glacier as the series now shifts to the civic centre in Corner Brook for the next three games with Game 3 slated for Friday the 13th.
Kyle McGrath had two goals for the winners, while Liam Maher scored an unassisted marker.
Brady Griffin-Hefford and Mike Lundrigan scored for the Kings.
Luke House played both games between the pipes for the Kings.
Game 3 is slated for 8:30 p.m. Friday at the civic centre in Corner Brook.
