To much arrogance to play a system or wanting to pad their stats. Lots of individuals not much of a team. This year they are lacking depth and defence and its starting to so they cant be successful on talent alone. Management and coaches have always been more concerned there about keeping there "star" resumes happy then rewarding the foot soldiers that get them where they have been.
I hope fans reconigze how important players like Earle, Kavanaugh, Hill, Oake etc were important to their success and how/why management turned off those players and other current ones.
You are absolutely right. The writing was on the wall for Churchill last year. He should have retired and remembered as the greatest, now he will go out in shame. Too bad but I said it after the first couple games
that he just doesn't have it anymore. All individuals up front and very little defense in back. A bad combination for a team to attract fans

Are you serious? Go out in shame??? Will thats ur opinion and ur entitled to it.
Most Caribous fans will remember Jason Churchill fondly when he decides to call it quits. Some may think he waited too long but they will remember that he carried the team on his back through 3 Herders Championships, 5 or 6 Herder finals, an Allan Cup Championship, and 3 Allan Cup finals! They will remember how he changed the face of goaltenders in NL Sr. hockey and what it meant to be the best. They will remember how he set the bar for all other goaltenders to reach for. I doubt that their has been any other NL born goaltender who can boast about having done that, especially in a 9 year span! They will also remember how he was with the fans, how no matter what, he always had time for the kids who just adored and idolized him and how he was a true gentlemen.
If you or anybody else remembers Jason Churchill as going out in shame.....then you didn't know him or know what he has done for the Clarenville Caribous organization and its fans. I feel sorry for you!
And that sir, is my opinion........

On another note....this happens to all goaltenders from time to time. Earlier this season the Caribous chased AJ from the net in GFW with 9 goals and did it to him in Clarenville last season where he was replaced by his brother after 6 or 7. Gillis has been pulled for going to sleep from time to time as well.
It happens.....

I agree Insider, holy crap, Church deserves our respect. I don't mind saying he had a bad game but no need to throw him under the bus. I also think Top Cheese made some good points.

Church had a bad game today ,this happens to all players ,the only trouble is that when the coach seen that he was having trouble he should have been taken out . never seen the game but from all accounts the boys did not play all that bad ,only church , so they were too late taking him out , could it be the coaches that lost this game . Churchill was the best goaltender in this league and he can still put in some great games . I have seen him play some great ones and won a lot of games for the team on his own .. He might not be here after Christmas so what will we do then ,

Never saw the game yesterday but heard there were a few soft goals. Sat nights game would have been a lot different if not for Clarke. Never saw the guy play before but he played well. the talent in this league now is just too good for an "average" goalie. Believe me, before Savage came to town we had our share of "good" goalies but none could make that key save when you needed it. I have watched Churchill the past 4 years and he has been outstanding.
The Bous are lacking on the back end and its as simple as that. Roach is his usual steady self, after that its pretty thin. I think losing Victor was a big loss.

Its easy to judge as we all know but I can guarantee you this. If Church wanted out of the net at any point, he would have left it. It may have been his choice to stay there.

I'm pretty sure he did pull himself after I think was the 8th goal. I can't say I blame him either, he was left in way too long and he was clearly frustrated. It happens to the best of them, I did notice that coach Hapgood didn't return for the 3rd. The Bous out shot the Flyers so the game wasn't as lopsided as the score indicated and I think Cville had quite a few pp opportunities compared to the Flyers.
It was great to see Knox get a couple as well as Dalton, these guys work hard game in game out. Theriault was great all weekend, Welcher and Oake also helped the Flyers. Let's hope this will help turn the Flyers season around.

I have the utmost respect for Churchill, his ability, and what he has done for the Caribous. I also respect the challenges of working full time and then having to fly to Newfoundland, travel and then play two games of competitive hockey.
I do believe however this is an example of what I said before. Clarke played Saturday Night ( probably not planed in the first place but had to play for certain reasons) played very well then was relegated to the bench the next day. This I see is a trend, watching players of a high caliber not perform weekly or not be a team player and their continuously played no matter there effort. They aren't successful and play as individuals while performing players who play for the team are relegated to the bench. Cant be a very favourable team culture.
I think the reason why the Cats have been successful over the past number years is the opposite of this. There coached well, play structured hockey, and the players are more concerned with the success of the team then padding invidual stats. Everyone's contribution is respected no matter what role they play.
