Cut the refs some slack

I guess some of you may be critical of me to even get in on this topic, but to see an offical (linemans) acknowledge the fans with their jeering and coments, and the same offical toss the puck towards the yelling fans after the third period would make one wonder where his thoughts are. I have reffed a different sport on a local level and one thing I do know is that when you let a team or fans get into your head you are not going to make the right decisions. The cats faced an uphill battle last night and seeing what I saw (through cat eyes ha-ha), I feel HNL should take a serious look a those guys and what games they ref from now on. Brutal. Such a great game ruined by three people.

exactly that bozo linesman has the gall to throw the puck at a fan and smile and mutter under his breath. Its bad enough the way people can act at the rink but if your an official your to conduct yourself with the utmost respect for everybody regardless of how heated the situation.

And just for the record I have played AND officiated in the past.

HockeyGooRoo, I don't know you from Adam. But, based on your 'dual' involvement, I would like for you to expand a little on this, your post. I myself have NEVER officiated, though I've been playing for close to 50 years (still do). Questions: 1) what was the highest level at which you've officiated?; 2) do you still?; 3) have you ever done a "bad" game?; 4) did you please all of the fans all of the time?; 5) have you ever done a game where, upon reflection, it would have been better had you made a different call?; 6) should essentially identical infractions (I know this is a tough one!!) be called the same regardless of the time of the game or whether the 'offending' team is ahead, tied, or behind?

1 - all levels of amateur hockey.
2 - Yes......(im doin tonights game just kidding ....the answer is NO
3 - Yes
4 - Definitely NO!!
5 - Not that I recall specifically
6 - IMO NO.......and obviously this IS the problem I have with last night. And I can guarentee you that the majority of officials and players will agree.........when you have a close game late in the last period OR overtime the typical approach for a referee is as follows .....YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE THE DECIDING FACTOR IN THE GAME SO YOU SAY TO YOURSELF THAT THERES ONLY TWO OCCURANCES WHERE IM GOING TO CALL A PENALTY..........FIRST - IF THE INFRACTION INTERFERES WITH A SCORING OPPORTUNITY.........SECOND - IT HAS TO BE AN OBVIOUS/SERIOUS INFRACTION. Example would be two-handed slashes or crosschecks to the head, etc.......OTHER THAN THAT YOU LET TEAMS DECIDE!!!!!!!!

And last night he called not one penalty - but proceeded to put a team down 2 men with about a minute left. And let me assure you this is the way I feel about any two teams in any game!!!!

I would love to see you referee the games all year and see what the fans say about yah.
