Caribous Future in Jeopardy… Seriously.

The Clarenville Ford Caribous’ future is in serious jeopardy as season pass sales to date have fallen way short of targets. Over the past week, season ticket renewals were for sale and as of early today (Friday October 7th) there are only 199 passes sold. This is FAR short of the 550 last year. Optimistically, the organization set a target of 700 passes for this year, but would be able to operate on 600 passes sold.

As such, we are putting one final plea to the public. Season tickets will remain on sale until 6pm Wednesday, October 12th. If we do not reach the 600 pass mark, the Clarenville Caribous will not be able to ice a team this season. And in reality, once a team is gone, it is extremely difficult to get it back.
Over the past decade, the team has been a huge part of our community and region. The community pride and spirit the team generated over the past 10 years has been outstanding. Capturing three Herder Championships… the phenomenal success at the national Allan Cup championships, including the historic win in 2011… and of course to the hosting of the Allan Cup here at the Eastlink Events Centre in 2015. Caribous hockey has been part of the social and economic fabric of our Town.

Let’s not lose it. Please, if you can, come out before 6pm Wednesday October 12th and purchase a season pass. Help secure the future.

The box office will be open from 3pm to 7:30pm Saturday; and noon to 6pm Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you can’t make it to the box office, please call 466-4105 ext 222 (leave a message) or email todd@clarenville.net.

Please note that all season pass sales are held in trust with the Town of Clarenville. As such, in the unfortunate case that the season is cancelled, refunds will be issued, in full, by the Town of Clarenville.

Looks like the CeeBees are going to have a really strong roster this year. This is going to be bittersweet for Joey and his gang running a certain team out of Torbay. On one hand he gets access to some more players but at the same time the CeeBees get stronger with their local players potentially back in the fold.

They have to get very creative to meet those targets at this point in the game. Good luck to those involved in the effort.

Seen this coming the last couple of years . Very bad fan support,. I50 bucks for 10 nights out and then to watch some good hockey ,not bad in my books . Don't say much for the so called fans of Clarenville when you can't get 500 people to support a team . Well I guess that this is the end there will be no more hockey to see ... Disappointed with this

We had/have to keep pushing forward until there is no more. Our reason for any/all announcements is to keep fans informed, and hopefully stir some interest. Nothing more nothing less. If we didn't make those announcements certain people would say "no wonder you don't sell tickets. Go figure. We are trying hard and will do so up to Wednesday deadline.

Fingers crossed for you guys.

Just curious, has the thought gone into just cutting all and any costs for a season or 2, grow a bank account and then get a few players, go all in type season and hope to rebuild in any way from floor up. Of course the issue is getting the fans to buy into it.

I'm pretty sure the powers that be HAVE cut the budget where they could... its easy to say cut all costs... but you still have certain expenses no matter what you do... travel, accommodations (at times) etc are all factors that remain no matter what you cut as they are external costs associated with operation.

The issue here isn't organizational over-spending... the team has been VERY good with setting a budget and working within said budget. .. but as any of the other teams know, operating budgets tend to run between 200,000 - 300,000 per season.. even if you were to cut back even more and let's say 150,000.....with currently 200 passes @ $150 each.... (remove taxes and surcharge).. that's under 30k..... there are business sponsorships of course that aren't factored into this.. but you're not going to make up a 100-120k deficit with sponsors..

The Caribous need its strong fans base to step up and buy their passes .
