The surging St. John’s Caps registered a pair of wins over the weekend, giving them six victories in their last seven games as they continue to battle for second place in the East Coast Senior Hockey League.

The Caps (8-3-0) are tied in points with the Clarenville Ford Caribous (8-4-0), who picked up one win over the weekend.

The defending champion Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers won their 13th game in 14 starts Friday to keep their lock on first place.

At the C.B.S. Arena on Saturday night, Jordan Escott scored at 4:36 of overtime as St. John’s beat the Conception Bay Blues 5-4.

Ex-pro Terry Ryan scored a natural hat trick — three straight goals — for the Caps . Jordan Freake had the other St. John’s goal.

Ryan Day, Lucas Lush, Sebastien Cormier and Kris Hodge had the C.B.S. goals.

Also Saturday, at Clarenville’s Eastlink Events Centre, Redmond Hunt stopped 23 shots for the shutout as the Caribous blanked the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars 5-0. Chad Earle led the home squad with two goals. Kevin Reid, Dustin Russell and Chris Sparkes had singles.

At Twin Rinks on Friday, Escott and Freake both had a pair of goals as the Caps doubled the CeeBees 6-3.

Riley Edwards and Mike Druken also scored for St. John’s. Replying for the visitors were Brian Greeley, Rob Taylor and Brett Shute.

In C.B.S. Friday, Andrew Brennan, Dan Cadigan and Brandon Pye all had a pair of goals as the Breakers down the Blues 7-5. Peter Kavanagh also scored for the Shore. Ryan Power, Kyle Tibbo, Drake Dower, Hodge and Cormier replied.
