Player (no name) hits the smallest player on the opposing team with an elbow. With only 5 sec's left in game. I believe the ruling was just 2 min and the game. IN Junior, AHL and NHL is giving hefty suspenions for this type of hit, shouldn't Minor Hockey do the same. I have also heard this player was only looking for the rough stuff. This is were it all starts. Then when you least expect it. Too late. A bad elbow hit resulting in a player spending time in the hospital and perhaps life long injury.

Update: The Boy that was hit is still feeling the after effects, Something should be done for this to never to happen again. More heffty Suspensions. Wed. Feb. 17, 2010

I think you might be talking about my son. The player should have been given at the least a game suspenion but the refs didn't even want to give him a penilty. At the least it should have been called boarding and interferance due to the fact the puck was at the blue line and he was hit behind the net. My son was very scared when he came to on the ice and couldn't move his hands and after 20 minutes of being tended to and carted out in the ambulance, it also had me done in. At this age, there shouldn't be checking and should be all skill play not hard play. They are still growing and their bones are still soft. Too many injurys and broken bones.

Update from this post last year, A very skilled skater and stick handler, did quit the A team due to the fact that bigger kids which grow faster than others like to take hard hits to smaller players. Now the child is having more fun on the A team than he ever did before. It's only minor hockey, rules need to change to make it fun for all kids , small or big. I feel that Refs and Coaches need to come together while the kids transition into the checking age. More eyes on the ice the better. Perhaps more Refs for this peewee div. to accommodate the kids that are just learning the checking procedure. IMO
