Tri-Pen Lions announces coaching change
August 23, 2011

The Tri-Pen Lions has announced that Matthew French has been named the team’s new head coach. He replaces Rod Noseworthy, who guided the club during the 2010-11 season.

The Lions would like to offer a sincere thank you to Rod and his assistant coach Avery Fry for their commitment to the Tri-Pen Lion Major Midget Team. They volunteered much time and energy in guiding the Lions to a 2nd overall regular season finish last season.

“Matthew’s extensive hockey knowledge and his experience playing at a high level is what I hope will help us take the next step in our progression” said Lions General Manager John Budden.

French is a Tri-Pen alumnus, having played with the Tri-Pen team that won the Monctonian in 1998. During the 1999-2000 season he was a member of the Team Atlantic Under 17 team that played in the World Hockey Challenge. After he finished playing Major Midget hockey, he played in various junior leagues on the Mainland including: OHL – Barrie Colts, QMJHL – Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, MJHL – Yarmouth Mariners (League 1st Team All Star), OPJAHL – Milton Ice hawks (League Top Defenseman, League 1st Team All Star). Since returning home he has been playing Senior A hockey with the Cee Bee Stars, winning the Herder Memorial Trophy 3 times. This past season he won the Allan Cup( National Senior A) with the Clarenville Caribous.
Last year Matthew took on the role of Technical Director with the Bay Arena Minor Hockey Association.

In addition to adding Matthew French as Head Coach the Lions are pleased to announce that Zane Truman has been added to our coaching ranks as an assistant coach. Zane is from St. Louis, Missouri, and brings with him a wealth of hockey knowledge obtained through his experience playing and coaching hockey at advanced levels.

Having Matthew’s experience playing Major Junior Hockey, and Zane’s USA Hockey, and University hockey experience, we feel we are able to provide our players with a well-rounded coaching experience, and give them every opportunity to decide their best option as they progress in hockey.
