The St. John’s Pennecon Privateers look to re-take first place in the Newfoundland & Labrador Major Midget Hockey League this weekend, as they host the Central IcePak for three games.

The Privateers had last weekend off, and saw the St. John’s Maple Leafs sweep the Tri-Pen Lions to take a one-point lead in the race for first. The Leafs will be off this weekend, so it will be a great chance for the Privateers to take advantage and regain their stranglehold on top spot.

However, they’ll have to do it without their captain and leading scorer Drake Dower, who is out with a lower body injury, while his brother, Lee, is suspended three games for receiving a fighting major and game misconduct in the finale of their series with the Leafs a couple of weeks ago. Jarrod Avery is going to slide into the line-up to replace Drake and make his eagerly anticipated season debut, while Bruce Murphy and Luke Peddle will split time on the backend with Lee out. Matthew Jenkins will start Friday night, and Coady Edwards is expected to start Saturday.

Cody Drover and Alex Snow will be the two to look out for this weekend out of Central. Both players have 20 points in just six games. Tyler Whiffen and Andrew Manuel will see time between the pipes.

All games will take place at the Goulds Arena, and start times are scheduled for 6:30pm Friday, 8:30pm Saturday and 10am Sunday morning.

Also this weekend, the Tri-Pen Lions travel to the Pepsi Center in Corner Brook to take on the Western Kings in a three game set.
