After the first weekend in the Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey playoffs, both semi-final series' are tied 1-1. The St. John's Privateers won the first game of their series Saturday night, by a 3-2 score, before dropping game 2 Sunday morning, 2-1. This series is shaping up to be a long one. Great hockey being played and some big, clean hits being thrown both ways. This series shifts to Capital Hyundai Arena this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the next three games.

The Western Kings dropped Game 1 of their series to the Central IcePak, 5-4 Saturday night before rebounding with a 4-0 victory Sunday morning. Cody Drover recorded five points for Central in Game 1, but as the rest of the team on Sunday, he was shut down. Western with look to repeat their shutdown performance in the next three games. Both teams will head to Lewisporte for the next trifecta of games, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Whether you're in St. John's, or Lewisporte, or any of the surrounding areas of these battles, be sure to get out and watch some great hockey and see what the future of hockey in this provine is like. You will definately see some of these guys playing in the QMJHL next season.
