- What is the shape of a hockey puck?: triangle
One thing i can guarantee is this....if this team that represented "Atlantic" at the Allan Cup were in NL senior hockey....they would be by far the best, hardest working team on the island....Time for some people to accept the fact that there were 2 teams Caribous/Cee Bees that had their players playing....HOWEVER....Clarenville footed the bill so they have every right to claim the championship as their's.....not taking a thing away from the Cee Bees players, but that would be the case with any team going....next year if GFW decides to go and affiliates with 19 players instead of just on team....who are we gonna say won then....the CATS...simple as that.canonball wrote:I would like to ask you , giddidy one question ? You said that the team that went to the Allan cup was not the best team on the island , where did you get this from ? Did this team that went and won the Allan cup play against either team on the island Did they play Deer Lake Corner Brook or even the mighty cats ,, i don`t think so .. So how can you or anyone else for that matter say that they were not the best team on the island ?O yes we know that the cats were the best double a team ,but that is as far as it goes ... What is wrong here did the bous and CB`s gang up and take away some of the Cats glory Makes a person wonder ...
Not to take anything away from this years Allan Cup winners, but I do have to agree with Giddidy's comment that the present Allan Cup set up is inferior to what it once was. Back in the 70's and 80's there were regional playoffs that consisted of best of 5 and best of 7 series that were played just to reach the Allan Cup Final. It was a long ,tough, physical, emotional and financially draining journey for the reigning Herder Champs. Many good teams tried but were unsuccessful until the 1986? Corner Brook Royals captured NL's first ever Allan Cup. I remember listening to the games broadcast on the radio during those heydays, rooting for the NL team. But, sadly, NL senior hockey couldn't afford to continue and it folded. I'd venture to say that other Atlantic provincial leagues and teams also felt the fiscal crunch and could not survive. Now the Allan Cup championship is more or less a weekend tournament style where, if you can string together 3 or 4 good games you can be crowned Canada's senior hockey champion. It's still great to win, but it's not as long and grueling as it once was. Okay, that's my opinion. Now,look out for the mudslinging to start!!!
