Alarmed??....lol There is no such thing as an import coach. If a someone were to be a player/coach then the import rule would apply if appropriate.canonball wrote:Ok , so now , do this also apply for a coach who is also an import ,, Are they allowed to coach in this league without being considered an import ? By the way nothing to be alarmed about, only checking on a few things ...

Ok then would you consider Andrew McKim as an import coach , he did coach in this league and came in to play hockey also bird dog as i recall done the same thing ... don`t get mad about it boy just asking ,,,
Cannon. What is going on? You asked some straightforward questions and I attempted to answer in a respectful and straightforward way. Suddenly you come back with "boy" and "don't get mad" cracks. We were having a polite conversation. Why not keep it that way. You ask if I would consider Andrew McKim an "import coach". The answer is "no" because as stated earlier, there is no such thing as an "import coach".canonball wrote:Ok then would you consider Andrew McKim as an import coach , he did coach in this league and came in to play hockey also bird dog as i recall done the same thing ... don`t get mad about it boy just asking ,,,

rules were put in to place at last years agm regarding imports which will be revisited this year in june. one things for sure, if there are imports, every team will have the same to make it even. doesn't seem like its hard to get a teaching job in clarenville, i guess those job postings didn't get posted like the rest of them in nl. thats a nice thing to be able to offer a player when recruiting.

"There is the possibility of an exception being made if someone moves here for work as part of a professional job transfer as opposed to coming here to play hockey".
So if this goes through then Jared Tuton and Kyle Doucet of the CeeBees should be considered non-imports. Tuton followed his girlfriend here because shes attending mun med school and Doucet has a job with the Provincial government. Neither player came here for the purpose of just playing hockey. Whereas Jordan Smith and David Victor came here solely to play for the Caribous but that doesn't matter as they were grandfathered in the old league.
Thanks for the info bogeyman, thats the way I understood it as well. I hope my CeeBees can pick up some strengthening players over the summer as Clarenville did last year so they can be more competive against the Cats and Bous.

Neither Jared nor Kyle qualify as non-imports because neither came here as part of a specific job transfer. Coming here to be with your girlfriend isn't the same as having the company you work for transfer your job to NL, requiring you to move here. Nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't make you a non-import under NSHL rules. Similarly with Kyle, just because he works here or even came here beacuse he found a job won't qualify. The exception would only appply to someone who was working somewhere other than NL and the company he was working for transferred his job here, requiring him to make the move. It's pretty narrow in scope which is why nobody currently playing fits the criteria. At least I'm pretty sure there isn't. Certainly not the names that have been brought up so far.HockeyDave wrote:"There is the possibility of an exception being made if someone moves here for work as part of a professional job transfer as opposed to coming here to play hockey".

I think there was a new rule for imports when the new league was formed ....something to the effect that after 2 (?) years living and working in the province you would be considered to be a resident ..therefore a non-import... BUT i'm not sure. This would be a question for the NSHL executive NOT the HNL.
