After the campaign from GFW last year they let the teams that got to the hHerder decide where they wanted to play. Because of that they didn't book Mile One at the beginning of this year...which they always do . The CeeBees wanted to play their games at Mile One for financial reasons but the facility just wasn't available because of the Home Show and the Ice Caps. There was even a discussion of an afternoon game on the evening of an Ice Caps game and an evening Herder game after an afternoon Ice Caps game.I know all this is so because know the person who tried to make the bookings for HNL.
It is a shame it all worked out like this . A Herder at the CEC AND Mile One would have been something. Instead the games are at a rink that has a long and proud history but is obsolete in terms of capacity or broadcast capabilities. There are thousands of fans who would watch the Caribous or the CeeBees at Mile One who aren't going to drive to stand up in Clarenville or Harbour Grace.
A good example of how these things work is the recent seven game junior series between the Celtics and the Southern Shore. The Shore had FAR more fans at Jack Byrne when they were on the road then they did when they played in their own rink in Witless Bay-Mobile.

You still dont get it and you obviously never will. The atmosphere at the SWM last night was unbelievable, as Sam has stated above. And Im willing to bet that all the True Blue Ceebee Fans were there to experience it. It was the kind of atmosphere that never has been and never will be matched at Mile One. Im happy for the true fans of the Ceebees that this "all worked out like this". No doubt the Ceebees brass were trying their best to go to Mile One to milk as much cash as they could to lay against their deficit. They may have failed in that attempt, but its the fans of HG and area that came out the winners!!

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, if a team has to rely on a Herder appearance and subsequent cash cow to make ends meet, then they are doomed to fail!!

GooRoo for once I have to agree with you. I think this is exactly what the doctor ordered for the Ceebees organization. My prediction is that ticket sales during the regular season will be WAY UP next year.

GooRoo and Sam ...I hear the points you make about atmosphere and for the 1500 or so who were at the game it must have been great. What irony though if the CeeBees don't come back next year because they didn't make it into the black from the Herder. Working in their favour however is that they did pick up ten thousand dollars this week from that court decision ....which was HERDER money.
BTW ..just for the sake of argument if the atmosphere and all that fan loyalty stuff ..which wasn't there during the regular season ...why did CeeBees do everything they could to get into Mile One after they made the Herder. The answer is money. The CeeBees were broke. The really attractive thing about this team is that they agreed to play for free for a few games rather than fold.
When you say the FANS came out the winner you mean the thousand or so fans who got into the rink and had a great time .You don't mean the fans of the CeeBees , the Bous or of just hockey who didn't get in.

I don't recall anyone saying that Mile One wasn't about the money. I'm certainly not that naieve. My point was simply this.....from a purely fan experience perspective, SW Moores is a better Herder environment than Mile One, hands down, and when you look at it in that light it's certainly not obsolete.

When I say fans, I mean the thousand or so who CHOSE to get into the rink. I'm just assuming you weren't there and if I am correct it is not because SW Moores couldn't accommodate you it was simply because you CHOSE not to go, for whatever reason. I'm not criticizing your decision not to attend, even if it was because the amenities were not up to your standards or the drive to get there was too inconvenient. Those are very legitimate reasons....for some people.

However, why should others, especially fans who regularly attend games during the year or who live close to the home team, have to accommodate fans like you and I who only attend sporadically during the year but expect some entitlement in March......simply because it's the Herder.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

If the Cee Bees ice a team in the NLSHL next year their regular season attendance can only go up after this year.By making the finals and getting what maybe 100-150k max in more revenue don't think its gonna be enough to save them. You can bet your bottom dollar that if these players are confronted again next year to play for free you,ll see a whole different outcome...GO FLYERS!!!
