BREAKING NEWS!!
Flyers hire new Head Coach Ben Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald comes to the Flyers with a long and extensive coaching resume. He has coached at many levels including: Minor Hockey, Junior “A” & “B” Hockey, Men’s & Women’s Senior “A” Hockey, and Canadian Forces Men’s & Women’s .
An 11 year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CF) he was named CF (East) Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1997 and CF Coach of the Year in 1999.
His coaching resume includes stints as Head Coach of the CFB Kingston Knights, CF National Capital Region Ladies Hockey Team, Ottawa 67’S Minors” 2000 Prospect Team, and the Carleton Place Jr. Kings.
Most recently he is best known for his time as Head Coach with the Western Kings AAA Midget team from 2004-2011 and his stint as Head Coach with the Corner Brook Royals from 2011-2012.
An Advanced level 1 Certified coach as well as various other certifications he has an had the opportunity to guest coach in camps run by NHL veterans Bob Hartley and Tom Renney.
His first posting in the Canadian Forces was in Gander and his wife is originally from Gander. Fitzgerald actually suited up for the Gander Senior Flyers in 1992 and 1993. He was a part of the 93 Flyers that went to the Herder Finals.
The Gander Flyers are very pleased to hire such a knowledgeable, respected, and veteran Head Coach.

Ben is a good coach who had some success in the league a few years ago.

He is a strong communicator and his teams work hard and play within the system. He also preaches fitness so I hope everyone shows up in shape.

Looking forward to seeing how this team performs this year. Active off season with some nice signings.

Fitz is a great guy, and I can guarantee that if you aren't working hard you wont see any ice time with him.
