Hynes vs Fergus
I believe Fergus had 18 points in the 5 games against the flyers. Just to keep the discussion going here.Seniorfan wrote:And to complete his disappearing act when it counted, only 5 points in the 7 game series against Clarenville and goose eggs in the 2 most important games of the year, Games 6 and 7.

There was also 14 points that separated the Cats & Flyers where Wayne Savage faced 901 in the regular season when compared to 675 to what Whiffen faced.
3 points separated the Royals and the Caribous. These two teams were more evenly matched than the Cats/Flyers.
In the games with that the Cats & the Royals played, Fergus had 1G, 6A ... Hynes had 4G, 3A.
And yes, Fergus leads the playoff scoring & yes, Brandon Hynes currently sits in 15 place with 5 points in that scoring race. Sure, you have Ryan Desrosier, Stewart McRae and Ryan Delaney with Caribous who have scored more points than Brandon Hynes.
It still doesn't change the fact you have two of the top scorers in the league going head to head .... and yes, there is Yetman etc etc etc.
Do you honestly think that Fergus will score 18 points against the Royals????

Check again Barry..Fergus had 3 goals and 6 assists in only 5 games....going to be a great series.

I should also note - that Fergus did miss a one or two weekends (I think) and still won the scoring title. That can't be ignored either.

I was just posting that he missed some games ... I must have missed 2 goals. I have a spreadsheet done up with all the scoring in it from the box scores.thelionsden wrote:Check again Barry..Fergus had 3 goals and 6 assists in only 5 games....going to be a great series.
I must have missed 2 goals. It took me over 3 hours to type those all in tonight! lol.
Back to the drawing board.

Found my error in my spreadsheet.thelionsden wrote:Check again Barry..Fergus had 3 goals and 6 assists in only 5 games....going to be a great series.
Had him the goals noted in the spreadsheet but the wrong formula for the additions when I did the search / comparison!

Thanks for pointing that out - you are indeed 100% correct.
Should be a good series but I think the Cats depth up front will win out in the long run. Hynes is a great player, but I think the knock on him his whole career has been his lack of desire/heart/willingness to get his nose dirty - call it what you want - when the going gets tough. Fergus is a pro hockey player, and will do what he does against the Royals just as he did against the Flyers. He may not get 18 pts Barry but he will be the difference maker in the finals.

tend to agree..cats have too much firepower and a better balanced club.cats maximum 6 games.Flyer24 wrote:Should be a good series but I think the Cats depth up front will win out in the long run.
