There are two groups among us .... those who have experienced the "heat of the battle" having actually played the game; and those who haven't, those who see the game through the eyes of a fan. The two are worlds apart!!
In this year's WCSHL we are being treated to an event which at three times its price would be a steal. At the CEC we pay twelve bucks. What a deal!
The combatants are very evenly matched ... talent galore from the goalies on outward. Both skate well and pass well. On the whole, the Cats team are somewhat more physical ... (with one or possibly two Caribous exceptions) the Cats get the nod in this department. The Caribous get a slight edge in the skating department.
Wonderful entertainment!
And yet there's this constant cr*p about how rotten a job the ref is doing. At every game! What's with that! What make a good ref? Is he expected to dole out an even number of penalties each game? If not, then what?
Officials are expected to be fair and impartial. But can they be ... totally? One makes a perceived "bad call" and supporters of the 'victimized' team are ready to hang him in the city square.
The guy, never mind which one it is, with one set of eyes is at ice level among a high-speed contest where there's action north, south, east and west of him. And he's expected to make no mistakes. Do fans realize what they are asking of this person?
How many of those fans look into their own mirrors? Of course it can't be, but wouldn't it be interesting if after each game fans could look at a video recording of their 'performance' that game .... to see how they behaved, what they observed, with what CLASS they showed themselves.
Let the referees do their work. It's no more perfect that the players theirs; or the coaches theirs. But, given the demands of the task at hand, they do a commendable job.
Calls by officials on the whole balance out.
The winner of this series will be a great team. Unfortunately, so will be the loser.
Cut the refs some slack

Dear redwingsfann,
Thank you for speaking as a voice of reason in the middle of a storm of crap! We complain about every call (And I'm as guilty as anyone on here!!) . Some of the comments that have been made are just not fair. We all should give these guys a break

Been there both as a fan and in "the heat of the battle" and this guy is still downright brutal. Impartiality is not in his vocabulary. HE HAS TO BE THE STAR OF THE SHOW AT ALL COSTS. Its the same in Minor, Junior and senior with him. Thats the only way he is consistant. Consistently bad

lol
nice one
As everyone, refs are human but there a times when some of them can get carried away. Im not sure why HNL is even letting his guy ref if there are so many complaints about him, not from just one league, but basically everyone according to the Avalon members. We obv got lucky and only had to deal with im once.riverman wrote:Dear redwingsfann,
