it says 1 game suspension on the rules for a check from behind where a major penalty plus game misconduct penalty is assessed.

That hit certainly wasn't in the last ten minutes. He was given an extra game. I guess Rice figured he'd save himself the trouble of finding an excuse to toss him from this one!
