didn't the officials get a raise this season?

They may have, but the league has to do something about the officiating. If its training the officials need, do it. If its money,do it. The hockey is too good to let the outcome of a game be decided by a coach whining to the refs. There is definitely a lack of confidence by some officials.Blades On The Ice wrote:Flyer G wrote:The calibre of hockey in this league deserves good officiating. I agree, I don't care how many on ice conferences the officials have as long as they get it right!commandergander wrote:You know, I may not have liked some of the calls that have been made in games this year, but here it is. I, nor any of these armchair refs, would ever think of lacing up the skates to do what these men do. Thankless to say the least! I know that we all have a right to our opinion on this forum and my opinion is that over 99% of people who are putting down the referees (and linesmen) would never dream of subjecting themselves to what these men are subjecting themselves to. And for the record, NO, I am NOT a referee nor a linesman. Will I yell at what I think is a bad call? You bet your life I will! Reversed calls - I don't care if they have to reverse the call 10 times as long as they get it right. It may rot us as fans, but as long as it is right, I am fine with it. NHL games are stopped when League head office sees and reviews a play and calls to tell the referee what the call should have been. Our officials have a thousand other officials making the call but only have themselves to rely on to make the decision. Does it affect the flow of the game - definitely - but so does players and coaches whining. I would rather have the officials huddle to discuss a play and be big enough to say that I got it wrong. It may not look the best to fans, but as long as it is right. In a fast paced game, when the call is made, it is made and you have to live with it as a player and an official. I thought umpiring fastpitch softball was bad when I did it, that was a walk in the park as to what these officials have to go through. And YES, KING is one of the best out there and anyone who has watched hockey in the past KNOWS that!

I too have refereed every sport but nothing compared to hockey. I honestly think this league is now to fast for our officials and that is nothing against them. The pros make mistakes and cost teams games and they have instant replays. Over all i think they are doing a fairly good job. It is not easy and i would challenge anyone to go out and try it. Guys without them we would have no hockey and yes i shout at them but they don't mind as long as it don't get personal.commandergander wrote:You know, I may not have liked some of the calls that have been made in games this year, but here it is.
