This season will sadly not get off the ground. From what I’ve been told weeks ago by people close to this situation there was a very slim chance that the appeal to HC would work in favour of the ECSHL, now I haven’t heard anything official yet but it will be a miracle if we have any senior hockey this season.

Personally I think a lot of the blame in this situation should go to the Cee Bees. They could have easily joined the CWSHL and had a highly competitive 3 team league and we would of still had the 5 team ECSHL. They have money in the bank, players who want to suit up for them, a nice rink to play out of. Instead they wanted to join the ECSHL with a potential big contingent of players that played in the CWSHL last season (Whiffen, Escott, other night names) and absolutely dominate the ECSHL for years to come.
Well if this is true. Can’t someone with authority come on here and tell us. The fans that have supported these teams over the years deserve that.
In reality these teams and executives don’t give two **** about their fans. If a decision has been made the teams should have let their fans know immediately afterwards no matter what the outcome was.

Instead they’re too busy bickering, arguing, and insulting each other and trying to get their own way and playing the blame game with each other and with HNL.

So Insider you're trying to blame this mess on a team (CeeBees) that hasn't played a game of hockey in two years?

Just think about it, why should a team based in Conception Bay North be forced to travel to central NL two or three weekends a month to play hockey when a team from Clarenville is welcome to play in a league on the Avalon? Too foolish to talk about!

Herder Head here is the problem and I'll say this without insulting you or the Ceebees. This is the sitution. The CeBees are believed to have short changed the teams in the east at the gate. It doesn;t matter whether they did or didn't . What matters is that four of the east teams firmly believe that. These are the same four teams that were deserted by the CeeBees and the Blades just a few years ago. There is a bitterness towards the CeeBees that remains to this day . They are not welcome in the east league they deserted or the East League where the teams BELIEVE the CeeBees short changed them. Clarenville, on the other hand, are believed to be a stand up organization......They play hard and negotiate hard but they are thought of as " honest brokers".
Personally i would let the CeeBees back in and let bygones be bygones but iIm not running that league other people are. HNL wants the CeeBees back because HNL is trying to build a province wide hockey league. It is their announced dream. That is why last year they let Gander and Grand Falls have a two team setup and forced east teams to drive out to central Newfoundland to play hockey. It didn;t work ....
This year given the situation with the ceeBees and legal " exposure" as the lawyers say I would not be surprised if the national body Hockey Canada allowed the east league to operate WITHOUT the Ceebees. I think this is true because the CeeBees are free to play in the central league. They just want to play closer to home. They want to call the shots in the league they left and are seeking to re-join and that that doesn't want them .
The central issue now is the question as to how far Hockey Canada is prepared to go to have a good relationship with HNL bearing in mind that the teams in the east who don't want the CeeBees have already " lawyered up". It is certainly an interesting situation but ....I'm looking for a hockey game to watch ..

Yes there are many issues Hockey Eyes between the CeeBees and the east executive. The bad blood towards CBN probably goes all the way back to 2004 when some key members of the Flatrock Flyers jumped ship and joined the CeeBees, Flatrock folded shortly after and their management never forgot that.

The central league is not an option for CBN, as they don't have enough players willing to travel every second weekend to central, however they would probably have enough players if they played in a provincial league with 3 or 4 east coast teams or in an east coast league with maybe some interlocking with central and / or west, that way their travel would be reduced.

Hundreds of fans out this way would love to have some entertainment on Saturday nights.

Mariners posted this on facebook last night :

GAME ON !!
After much debate, work and effort, Deer Lake has confirmed that they will join the Mariners and the Royals in the WCSHL for the 2019/20 season!
Big shoutout to everyone involved in making this happen as it was not an easy task. Unfortunately the Stephenville Jets will not participate in the league this year leaving three teams to compete for the championship.
After declining the invitation the first three seasons, the WCSHL may also participate in the Herder championship which would put the WCSHL champion against the senior champions from the other Newfoundland leagues. ( not yet confirmed )
No date has been announced for the season start but expect your hometown Mariners to open camp this weekend. Dates and times to be announced.
Roster rules are as follows:
Each team protects 13 players and 2 goaltenders and the rest of the names go into the WCSHL draft. (draft date tba)
Each team can only protect one player coming over from the Central league, so one team cannot load up keeping parody paramount. Everyone else changing leagues enters the draft.
On Monday at 8:15am , Royals president Dennis Waterman and WCSHL PR man Dave Bruce will be on VOCM radio talking senior hockey and whats to come.
Mariner protected lists, signings, and draft results will be posted here as they happen so stay tuned to the page for that.
Don't forget to follow the Mariners on Twitter, especially on gamedays as Michael Wall does a great job keeping everyone in the loop on game events, when they happen, as they happen.
Those wishing to sponsor the team or volunteer can get in touch with team treasurer Jamie Young or message this page.

So now the Cats, Flyers and Ceebees are free to form a new league seeing how all three teams want to play and invite any teams from the now defunct East league to join them of they want to play senior A and legitimately compete for the Herder.

If that’s the case why didn’t they just form a league before creating this mess and possibly putting a lot of teams, fans, and players out of a game this season? That would have been the easy solution.

PS with the Cee Bees now back in the fold who will play in net for the Cats? Everyone and their dog knows Whiffen will be headed back to CBN
