What is the shape of a hockey puck?: triangle

Joe Maynard is detrimental to Newfoundland hockey. Period. I don't care what he's done in the past, he needs to step away from the game. For the last number of years he's changed rules on the fly, had his son named MVP of the league (good player, but come on) and has been a constant pain in the ass to senior hockey(mark Chapman rule). I'm all for the Avalon east operating as a league and keeping a game for local players but not at the expense of moving senior hockey forward as a whole.

How he got to vote last night is beyond me. Conflict of interest Joe? There was an opportunity to bring a Newfoundland Senior hockey Team to Torbay/outer Cove/flatrock/pouch cove for this season. A team for the people of these communities to get behind and to call their own. A team that would have drawn more than the 75 fans per game that the aeshl brought in last year, and would have filled the stadium with people that don't play the game, but enjoy a great game of hockey. A team for the community! Look at clarenville and Grand falls and how these communities have built unity and how the communities rally around these teams. Near sell outs every game

Now Joe will tell you it's about minor hockey and lost ice time, but Joe is full of it. This decision is about Joe Maynard and Joe Maynard only. Old Joe must forget what it feels like to have the flatrock flyers playing in front of a packed house and how exciting it is for the fans from Avalon east to have a team they call their own. The man is so jaded that he'd rather see a "development league" for marginal hockey players, than a competitive league fighting for the herder.

I for one am fed up with it. I have no idea where his false sense of entitlement comes from for the Herder, or what he thinks anybody owes him anything. I don't get why anybody puts any stock into what he says.

The herder isn't coming to flatrock or the avalon east anytime soon Joe. Take your old school ways and call it a day. You've got nothing left to offer hockey other than whining and complaining about how Joe can't play in his sandbox anymore with his Herder trophy
Disgusted

So....just how did it all go down? I would assume that the Blades requested icetime at the Joe Burne for games every second weekend or so and perhaps one practice session...maybe 2 hrs per week.
How did joe get his slimy little fingers n that????

I certainly don't want to be in the position of defending Joe Maynard but it isn't hard to understand why a team like Mount Pearl would not be welcome at the JBA to play it's games. That rink is the hub of the AESHL which is on the right track in terms what what it wants to be. It is a growing league. RONA Eagle play out of the JBA . Bell Island plays some of its games there and so does St. John's . It's a great place for this type of league.
I suspect it will be even better this year . It is hard to find fault when a team like Mount Pearl that is doing so poorly in attendance in its own barn now wants to move to another town like the Royals had to. . This was the same Mount Pearl team that along with the CeeBees tried to jump out of the league a few years ago. Am I remembering that correctly? Now they want old Uncle Joe to give them a place to play ?

There is a comment I would like to respond to ...
" Look at clarenville and Grand falls and how these communities have built unity and how the communities rally around these teams. Near sell outs every game"

That is true for ONLY two teams. The CeeBees struggled at the gate . Mount Pearl died at the gate . The Royals had to leave town. As for Newfoundland senior hockey teams fighting it out for the Herder there are only two dogs in that fight. Clarenville and Grand Falls. I would bet a buck that the team that wins the Herder next that ISN'T Clarenville or Grand Falls will be Torbay RONA Eagles or St. John's. Of course the senior league could change it's ways and enforce a salary cap and not have free trips and jobs as part of the league but I doubt it. There are only TWO healthy teams in the league as the puck drops for a new season. I suspect Gander will do okay this year. I think Deer Lake as well will make their payroll. We shall see.
How is that for keeping the discussion going Harvey ?

There was a proposal put forward by the blades organization to play out of Torbay this year, rather than play out of Mount Pearl after the TOWN of Mount pearl failed to contribute sponsorship of the team this year.

Both the committee of the Jack Byrne Arena, and the the blades organization met and discussed potential terms of a contract, which would have to be approved by the JBA committee in a closed door meeting. The proposal would have made the JBA a substantial amount of money, as well as giving the community something to be excited about.

Bud good old Joe, who happens to be on the committee of JBA, and who had no right to vote in the first place due to conflict of interests, exercised his right to vote, as well as influenced others that it was a bad idea for the community. Joe is a joke. A childish, selfish individual who as I previously stated is detrimental to hockey in this province.

There's kids and families in those communities that would love to watch exciting hockey, but don't want to drive to Mount Pearl, and in some cases can't always afford to take in an ice caps game. This was an opportunity for the kids of these communities to get excited about, and show them that hockey doesn't have to end after high school. He'll tell you there's the Avalon east for that, but guess what Joe, the caliber of hockey doesn't compare, and that's why YOU ONLY HAVE 75 PEOPLE A GAME.... It's a second tier league.

With the NHL off on strike, these kids can't even watch hockey on tv, so the only option is to pay 25 bucks a ticket to see the ice caps, which turns into 35 pretty quick.

You should be ashamed of yourself Joe. You set back Senior hockey down that way a good 10 years.

And I take great joy out of knowing you are reading this, but are too gutless to respond. Pathetic

And I was waiting for you Hockey Eyes... A cop out. A growing league to where it wants to be???? Couldn't make it at the gate???? The st.john's caps made less than 6,000 dollars on the gate last year. The Torbay team averaged 75 people a game. And since you brought it up, they were making arrangements so that both teams could play out of there. And since you're the one who brought it up, it's not the Joe f'n Maynard arena, it's the Jack Byrne arena. A man who fought for 25 years to have it put there for the community to use. The whole community. All those seats there and nobody sitting in them. So you can take your good old uncle Joe attitude and shove it. Nobody owes that man a thing, and you can be damn sure he shouldn't be the one making a decision on who plays out of there.

I always thought you were Joe Maynard, hockey eyes, and your pathetic attempt at defending the decision makes it a little more obvious.

Deer lake has already sold over 600 holding seats, and gander is just getting started. Sounds like the whole league is in dire straights. We would have had 5 healthy teams, with the possibility of the ceebees turning things around. Everything I hear leads me to believe Cory crocker has things under control salary wise.

Pathetic

When something does not go in favour of the NLSL or someone speaks an opinion that goes against the majority involved with it. The wrath, oh the wrath. Case being Carl Lake or HockeyEyes. God knows, I am not sure some have moved on about the Herder decision last season either. I do hope we never lose our IceCaps.
