playoff format

thinking last night about playoff formats. I know its a month before the season even starts but what odds. we never did hear for sure if the league organized itself with an east and west division rather than a straight up six team league so I was thinking bout what they might do in both cases come playoff time. if there are two divisions its obvious they are east being CL,CBN,MP. west being GFW,Gander, Western.

the two Possible formats I see with the division set-up are drop the lowest seed and have seed one and two play off with the winner advancing to the herder finals or drop the lowest seed and have a crossover with seed one in east play seed two in west and vice versa and then have winners advance to herder finals.

If its a straight up six team league I guess its take the top four seeds and do the traditional seed one play seed four and seed two play seed three and winners playoff for the herder.

anyone think of anything different or am I a little simple for even mentioning playoff set-ups in september.

How about topteams in each division gets a bye and 2 plays 3. It will make 3 round of playoff hockey but will devalue the reg season a bit as every team would make the playoffs.

it would make achieving first seed much more important.

Agreed. Even if say 1st and 2nd are way ahead of 3rd .Now say your 2nd and say you have an injured player, or an import who cant make it, then run into a hot goaltender and your season could be over very early.

The playoff format is something that needs to be given carefully considered.

The problem with the first seed in a division getting a bye is it could result in less home playoff games for the first seed which means lower gate receipts. You could end up with the sixth team overall team getting an extra playoff series compared to the first overall team.

Also the problem with the east and west division meeting in the Herder is the top two teams overall at the end of the regular season could face off in a semi final series and therefore one would be eliminated before the Herder finals.. Let's say the Bous and CeeBees finish first and second overall. If the east champion plays the west champion for the Herder, ther's no way they could meet in the Herder.

Even though it may result in some extra travel expense, the best option is you want the best two teams to play for the Herder is for first againt sixth, second against fifth, and third against fourth.

All teams agreed that in the interest of keeping everyone financially stable, that all teams would make the playoffs. Its was devastating last year to the Blades.....not getting any playoff games.

It has been decided that there will be a triple round robin in each if the two division....east and west. In each division, the first place team will get 4 home games and 2 away. The second place team will get 3 and 3 and the last place team 2 home and 4 on the road. The top team in each division will advance to the Herder finals..... :-D

IF this is indeed the playoff format, then we are witnessing a total laughing stock. Why not just flip a coin now to determine the seeding and jump straight into the playoffs...and by playoffs I use the term playoffs very loosely. A round robin format...What? All teams make the playoffs...What? God knows this league is in trouble if some teams are that far into the red one must make up this mockery to get a gate or 2. Essentially the regular season means nothing now.

Regular season means dick all. For what it is to have a few extra home games, I would rather see two teams not make it and have 1st play 4th and 2nd play3rd. This makes the regular season more exciting and teams will not get away with not flying in imports some games because the games mean nothing. Also say if gander and corner brook finish first and second overall one of these teams can't make it to the herder because they are in the same divison. Not very fair. JMO
