The Atom B gold-medal game will go down as one of the best games of the tournament history with the winning goal being scored with just 5.3 seconds left in regulation time, giving the Gander Flyers a 4-3 win over the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts

Liam Ryan was the hero as he scored after the Cataracts goalie gave up a rebound. Not only was this the golden goal, it was Ryan’s third of the game, allowing him to complete the hat-trick.

With the Flyers in control of the game, the Cataracts squad never relented, closing what was a 3-1 deficit to 3-2 early in the third period on a goal by Devin Carroll. With just over a minute to play, the Cats Eric Hewitt scored to even the score at 3-3 and that set the stage for the dramatic conclusion to the championship game.

Ryan’s teammate took a shot on net that hit the goalie and bounced out on the rebound. Ryan was Johnny-On-The-Spot and tucked the goal in to secure the victory and gold medal for his squad. Ryan indicated “At first I thought the goalie had stopped it, but as soon as I saw the referee put his hand down I was going crazy.
