Minor Hockey Week was official declared on January 11 for Newfoundland and Labrador and Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador selected the Stephenville Minor Hockey Association to start the festivities.  The slogan for this year’s Minor Hockey Week is “Focus on the Journey, Not the Destination”.

Hockey NL’s chair for minor hockey said “This year’s slogan was created to remind young players that our game at the grassroots level is really primarily about having fun.  In order to accomplish this you must enjoy your time coming and going at the arena.

With Saturday’s event at the Stephenville Dome kicking off Minor Hockey Week, players will be treated to series of tournaments across the island.  Stephenville hosted an atom tournament with tournaments also taking place on the Burin Peninsula.
Additionally, the Marystown Minor Hockey Association will host the Bantam 1 Invitational Tournament and next week Marystown will also host the U12 Female Invitational Tournament.
Jack Lee, Hockey NL president is encouraging people to get out and celebrate the game during Minor Hockey Week.
