The Newfoundland Growlers picked up its first win of the season, picking up a 3-2 overtime win against the Reading Royals at home at Mile One Centre.
The Royals scored the first goal as Matthew Gaudreau snapped a wrist shot over the Growlers goaltender Patrick Munson with just 4:14 remaining in the first period.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after peppering the Growlers netminder with 17 shots in the first period.
The second period saw the Reading Royals score at the 5:04 mark as Frank DiChiara scored his second of the second.
The Growlers responded late in the period when Aaron Luchuk scored, netting his first goal as a Growler at the 19:13 of the period.
In the third period, the Growlers stepped up their play, using the body to wear down the Royals, allowing Matt Bradley to score at 12:37 of the period to tie the game at 2-2.
With a late third period powerplay, the Growlers took the momentum into the overtime period with Mac Hollowell scoring 2:51 into the extra period, to give the Growlers the lead.
The Newfoundland Growlers evened their record early in the season at 1-1-0. Play resumes on Tuesday night as the Growlers face the Reading Royals to wrap up their three game series.
