The Montreal Canadiens defeated the defending Stanley Cup Champions 6-3 on Saturday night, handing the Blues their first regulation season loss in the young 2019-2020 NHL hockey season.
Montreal jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Tomas Tatar scored his second of the season at the 12:59 mark of the first period. The Blues Brayden Schenn evened the score at the 17:57 mark as he notched his forth goal of the young NHL season. Montreal pulled ahead shortly after as Jonathan Drouin scored at the 18:47 mark, giving the Habs squad a 2-1 lead after the first period.
St. Louis scored early in the second period as Sammy Blais notched his third of the season at the 1:05 mark of the second. Vince Dunn scored on the power play, giving the Blues a 3-2 lead. Montreal would tie the game at 3-3 on a goal by Phillip Danault.
The third period was all Montreal as Artturi Lehknonen made it 4-3 Habs before Brendan Gallagher notched his third point of the night, adding an insurance marker at 11:56 of the third period. With the score 5-3 for Montreal, the Blues pulled their goalie but failed to capitalize with the extra attacker.
