IceCaps Defeat Monarchs 3-1

The St. John’s IceCaps saw a pair of powerplay goals propell them to a 3-1 victory over the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday, December 28 as they rolled into the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. Goalie Eddie Pasquale was stellar in net as he carried a shutout late into the third period only to lose it with just 53 seconds left when the Monarchs scored its lone goal.

After 20 minutes of play, the IceCaps and Monarchs were scoreless. However, the Monarchs Scott Sabourin was given a double minor for high sticking the IceCaps captain Jason Jaffray towards the latter part of the second period.

St. John’s capitalized on the powerplay at 17:23 of the second period on a goal by Will O’Neill. Patrice Cormier and Kael Mouillierat assisted on the goal. Just a minute later, Andrew Gordon of the IceCaps scored from the slot giving St. John’s a 2-0 lead at the end of the second period.

The third period saw the IceCaps score at 2:48 of the period as Adam Lowry trickled a goal between the legs of Monarch’s goalie J.F. Berube. IceCaps J.C. Lipon and Carl Klingberg picked up assists.

When it looked like the IceCaps goalie Eddie Pasquale would secure the shutout, Nick Deslauriers scored from the crease with just under a minute to play.

St. John’s continues its road trip to Springfield, MA to face the Falcons on Tuesday evening.
