The Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor will be filled with hockey players this weekend, high school hockey players as the Donnini’s High School Hockey Tournament is set to get underway. Action is scheduled to start at noon on January 3rd as the returning champs from last year, the Holy Heart of Mary High team from St.

John’s and second place finishers from last year, the Exploit valley High team face-off.

Festivities officially get underway at 5:30 pm at the Joe Byrne when the opening ceremonies will be held followed by more tournament action throughout Friday evening and the remainder of the weekend, concluding on Sunday at 3:00 pm when the Championship Game is scheduled to start.

The Donnini’s High School Hockey Tournament has become known as one of the best highschool hockey tournaments in Newfoundland and Labrador since its inception some 14 years ago. This is one of the longest-runing invitational tournaments in the province and this year will draw seven teams.

Participating in the tournament this year will be Gonzaga High School from St. John’s, Holy Heart of Mary High School from St.
