The St. John’s Growlers of the ECHL have reached a lease agreement with the City of St. John’s that will keep the growlers in Newfoundland.

In a news release put out by Councillor Jamie Korab, Chair of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Ltd., the city has indicated that it is pleased to announce the lease agreement that will keep the Growlers playing at the Mile One stadium.

The release reads:

“On behalf of the Board and the City of St. John’s, I am pleased to announce that a three-year lease agreement has been reached and the Growlers will call Mile One home for the next three seasons,” said Councillor Korab. “I want to thank the Growlers organization for reaching a mutually agreeable lease and look forward to the return of hockey at our facility this year.”

“The Newfoundland Growlers are much more than just a hockey team,” said President of Deacon Sports and Entertainment, Glenn Stanford. “Over the past three years the Growlers have developed a passionate fanbase, developed deeply rooted business relationships, created meaningful partnerships with a number of community groups, and provided much needed economic spin-off to the downtown core. We owe it to our fans and partners to continue to operate out of Mile One Centre for the next three seasons.”

The lease was signed on August 24.

The Growlers are preparing for the season with ticket sales to begin shortly. City Council and the Board encourage all citizens to get out and support our team as they go for their second Kelly Cup championship.
