The Portland Pirates steal a game from the St. John’s IceCaps at the Mile One Stadium in St. John’s in recent American Hockey League Action. Portland jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when Hextall scored his sixth of the season. Just over 2 minutes later they made it 2-0 when the Pirates Rieder scored his tenth of the season.

St. John’s would pull within a single goal making it 2-1 on a late period goal by Lipon while on the power play. The IceCaps would score early in the second period to tie the game at two goals a piece but then the Pirates scored three unanswered goals in the period. Portland responded with its own power play goal when Lessio scored his ninth of the season. Another powerplay goal less than a minute later gave the Pirates a 4-2 lead. With just over 3 minutes remaining in the second period, the Pirates Louis scored what would be the eventual game winner, making the score 5-2 Pirates heading into the final frame.
St. John’s started its comeback scoring early in the third period on a nifty goal by Albert, his fourth of the season. Just under 2 minutes later, the IceCaps pulled within a single goal when Mouillierat scored his eighth of the season on the power play. That’s where the IceCaps comeback halted.
St. John’s goalies (Olkinuora and Pasquale) faced a total of 34 shots. Portland’s goalie Domingue faced 32 shots to pick up the victory.
