The Clarenville Caribous are the 2018 Herder Memorial champions, sweeping the St. John’s Capitals in the championship series. The win for the Caribous is the fourth Herder for the organization and brings to an end, a very trying year in the Central West Senior Hockey League.
The 6-1 victory saw the Caribous dominate from the opening face-off, and continue through to their fourth championship. This followed on the heels of a 4-1 victory the night before and a 4-3 & 5-2 victory the previous weekend in Clarenville’s Eastlink Event Centre.
The Caribous were previous Herder winners in 2009, 2010 and 2012. This year’s victory was bitter sweet after the controversial end to the Herder series last season, when the Conception Bay Cee Bee Stars scored a controversial goal that led to the Caribous eventual defeat.
