The delay stems from an appeal launched with Hockey Canada by the league after Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador refused to sanction the five-team league after refusing to allow the CBN CeeBees into the lague.
Hockey Canada was supposed to have rendered a decision on the league’s appeal on either October 18 or October 21. However, Hockey Canada has postponed its ruling until at least October 25 according to sources from within the organization. No reason was given for the delay but sources suspect it may have something to do with availability of officials in the timeframe.

What does this mean for the ECSHL? At this moment, it means that teams are not allowed to fundraise, sign players or even conduct their entry draft.
This situation has the potential to deal a major blow to Newfoundland Senior Hockey. Some sponsors contacted by NL Hockey Talk have indicated they are feeling nervous committing dollars to teams and to a league that is in turmoil. Sources in both HNL and from some teams have indicated there is general disagreement around the Hockey Canada appeal and some teams may withdraw from play depending on the results of the appeal.
