The New Jersey Devils beat the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 1-0, taking the victory on rookie Jack Hughes first career NHL goal. The Devils Mackenzie Blackwood recorded the shutout, stopping 25 shots on the way to his third career shutout.
The story of the night was the 18 year-old’s first career goal. Hughes was selected first overall in the NHL entry draft and while showing improvement with each game, he still never notched his first goal. Hughes took a pass from Taylor Hall on the power play & lifted a wrist shot from the right circle to secure the win for the Devils. The goal came at 14:08 in the first period.
